Re-created article for WP:N and WP:ORG

[edit]

I have re-created and developed the article a little. Soon after it was created (Jan. 8), it was submitted for deletion - on Jan. 22 by an editor who has since been blocked indefinitely, and again on Feb. 6 by the same editor with a sockpuppet account. The first AfD was closed. After the second, it was decided to merge the article with the Gabrielle Giffords article, with the last commenter saying, "No prejudice against re-creation of article if significant coverage expands to meet notability threshold in the subject's own right."

The article has reached that point. First, it was never just Giffords' organization, but also that of Mark Kelly, but second, and more importantly, it has been covered regularly by third-party sources since its founding, as citations now show.

Submitted article to DYK nominations

[edit]

On the advice of another user (admin) I added this article to Did you know nominations. I've never done that before, so - patience please. Hope I did it right.

United States v American

[edit]

I have worked with citizens of Latin American countries and am also a member of the Countering Systemic Bias project. Many Latin Americans object to the use of the word "American" to refer to the United States. Therefore, I use "United States" or "U.S." as a more-specific and culturally sensitive qualifier. Name change

[edit]

The organization has changed its named from Americans for Responsible Solutions to simply Giffords, with apparently subgroups named 'Giffords Law Center' and 'Giffords PAC'. Not sure how to address these changes in the article, or what the formal name of the article should now be. Anastrophe (talk) 17:53, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, regarding the PAC... What is the Difference Between a 501C3 & 501C4?
Wikipedia lists Americans for Responsible Solutions as a 501(c)(4), while Giffords Law Center is still listed as a 501(c)(3). we should check the status of this. Maybe if the Law Center is still a (3), the (4) activities are conducted by the PAC side of the organization? wbm1058 (talk) 17:39, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Law Center mission As a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit, Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence is invited by legislators to testify at state and local legislative hearings examining proposed violence prevention measures. We also provide advice and comment to help legislators and their staff formulate and implement new laws. – wbm1058 (talk) 18:09, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
About Giffords So there are actually three legal organizations:
Giffords comprises three core entities—each with a distinct function, all working together to fight gun violence:
501(c)(4) nonprofit arm mobilizes lawmakers and the constituents they represent—gun owners and non–gun owners—in support of safer gun laws
Federal political action committee works to support elected officials who step up to fight the gun violence epidemic
501(c)(3) nonprofit works to research, write, defend, and enact the laws, policies, and programs proven to reduce gun violence and save lives
Maybe this article should be updated to cover the first two. – wbm1058 (talk) 18:30, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
