Settlement section: needs some work
[edit]I added a POV-check tag to the section on settlements. This isn't really the tag I wanted but hopefully it'll get somebody to take some action. The problem is that the second paragraph, and second half of the first paragraph, contain opinions about the settlements that are expressed as facts. I assume that the author means to say that these opinions are the beliefs of APN -- if so, the text needs to be explicit about this. (I would fix it myself but I'm not completely sure of the author's intention and don't know the group well enough to judge for myself.) Benwing (talk) 06:29, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
BTW, assuming that the whole section is simply meant to express APN beliefs and may have been lifted whole-hog from an APN press release, it should be rewritten something like this:
- APN believes that settlements in the West Bank represent a security liability for Israel and an obstacle to future peace efforts, and has advocated that the Bush Administration go on record in opposing the expansion of settlements and in favor of Israel's removing illegal settlement outposts. According to APN, President Bush's oft-repeated vision of a future Palestinian state, living alongside Israel, each country secure in its own borders, can never be realized if Israel continues to expand settlements and further consolidate its hold over land in the West Bank.
- APN asserts that the economic and security challenges facing Israel are exacerbated by continued investment in settlements and refusal to rein in renegade settlers who persist in establishing new settlement outposts. According to APN, polls show wide support among Israelis for a settlement freeze, dismantling of outposts, and settlement evacuations, and also have shown that most settlers would accept withdrawal from settlements in the context of a peace agreement and a compensation program. APN believes that by making it impossible for Israel to disengage from the West Bank, settlements ensure that the government of Israel will eventually govern an area in which non-Jews outnumber Jews. Israel would thus be forced to choose between remaining a democracy and losing its character as a Jewish state, or retaining its character as Jewish state at the expense of democracy.

Hi wikifriends,
I was looking at the page for Americans for Peace Now and noticed there were two content items which should be uncontroversial, but are incorrect. Since the page lacks an edit tab, I'm not sure how to fix them (I also noticed a few typos). The two items: we're a c3 organization, not a c4 so please change: Type 501(c)(4) to Type 501(c)(3); we don't currently advocate negotiating with Syria, so under: Goals Stated at PeaceNow.Org
#2 says:
- Active White House and State Department engagement in the peace process, especially Administration efforts to broker a new interim understanding between Israelis and Palestinians, facilitate final status arrangements that reconcile Israeli security with Palestinian statehood, and encourage negotiations between Israel, Syria, and Lebanon.
It should say:
- Active White House and State Department engagement in the peace process, especially Administration efforts to broker a new interim understanding between Israelis and Palestinians, facilitate final status arrangements that reconcile Israeli security with Palestinian statehood, and encourage negotiations between Israel, and her neighbors.
Can some one either fix them, or let me know how to fix them and then let me know what happened with the corrections? I'm happy to answer any questions that need to be answered. Both of these items are easily checked for verity.

- Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. In addition, please could you give an up-to-date link to the source for the Goals section, as the current link just redirects to the home page, which doesn't state the goals. --Stfg (talk) 14:22, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
No problem: Here's a link to our <a href="https://peacenow.org/mission-statement.html">mission statement</a> for goals. Our mission statement is, "APN is the sister organization of Shalom Achshav, Israel's preeminent peace movement. APN's mission is to educate and persuade the American public and its leadership to support and adopt policies that will lead to comprehensive, durable, Israeli-Palestinian and Israeli-Arab peace, based on a two-state solution, guaranteeing both peoples security, and consistent with U.S. national interests. We also work to ensure Israel's future and the viability of Israel's democracy and Jewish character through education, activism and advocacy in the United States, and by mobilizing American support for Shalom Achshav. "
Also, although it's not a "goals" page per se, you can get a good sense of what we focus upon on our <a href="https://peacenow.org/pages/they-say-we-say.html">"They Say, We Say," page</a>.
Here's a link to our <a href="https://peacenow.org/donate.html">donation page</a>, which states clearly "Americans for Peace Now is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization." But if you don't trust us, you can look up up on <a href=" http://www.guidestar.org/organizations/13-3509867/americans-peace-now.aspx#idReportSectionForms990Quick">Guidestar</a> or <a href="http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.irs&ein=133509867#.UmgHUxDi2a0"charity navigator</a>
As far as the Syria item, I"m not really sure how to give you a source for a negative. You can look over our site and notice that we don't advocate negotiating with Syria anywhere.
Will that do?
Response October 23
- Done. Thanks. It's not a question of trust, but independent sources are preferable where available. (I wouldn't have been willing to cite your donation page, for obvious reasons.) I've changed to "Israel and its neighbours", but actually there are two sections talking about goals, and the second one isn't really supported in detail either by the mission statement or by You-Say-We-Say. So, although I've included those, I've tagged the section to seek improvement to the references. Regards, --Stfg (talk) 19:11, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
