Precontact agroforestry
[edit]This article could use an update in regards to the extent that the chestnut was intensively cultivated by native peoples, who likely expanded its range as well as its population. It was the basis of large scale nut agroforestry that further fed game species like bear, turkey, and deer. The use of fire to manage these forests and increase nut production is well documented. Wood
[edit]It would be helpful if there is a photo of a wooden plank of the chestnut tree. Maybe some furniture would also add more information to the article.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 18:43, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- It sure would be interesting to a lot of woodworkers who have never seen Chestnut. Blueistrue (talk) 14:36, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Misdirecting or confusing?
[edit]What is the purpose of the word "alone" in this sentence?
- In Pennsylvania alone, it is estimated to have comprised 25–30% of all hardwoods.
It sounds as if it is trying to say:
- In Pennsylvania alone, it is estimated to have comprised 25–30% of all hardwoods [growing on the Eastern Seaboard].
Instead, what it probably is intended to say is simply:
- In Pennsylvania [for example], it is estimated to have comprised 25–30% of all hardwoods.
Or it could just be removed. Blueistrue (talk) 14:33, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Intellectual Property
[edit]I have removed the recently added section about intellectual property. This material was off topic. There are other articles in wikipedia where this topic can be more properly addressed. sbelknap (talk) 23:44, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Fungus or virus which is it
[edit]Second paragraph first sentence the disease is a fungus. Third paragraph second sentence it is called a virus. It can't be both. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bruce A. WIlliamson (talk • contribs) 15:05, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- Worse that was in the lede section. I have corrected it. Invasive Spices (talk) 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Possible Vandalism
[edit]I removed some edits which appear to be vandalism. Based on the citations, the Darling 58 work is clearly the leading effort to restore the American Chestnut. Currently, the other projects have been less successful.sbelknap (talk) 18:34, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Max height is way over 100ft
[edit]They found a lone tree in Maine that’s 115 ft so if this random one is 115 the max is likely higher
