Article should be titled: American Discovery Trail System
The American Discovery Trail is a system of recreational trails.
There have been several well written wikipedia articles redirected to the American Discovery Trail article. These recreational trails collectively form the American Discovery Trail System. However, these redirects have inadvertantly removed very useful information about these recreational trails.
Did the ADT trail come out of the proof-of-concept and lobbying effort in 1980 or 1981 by Hike-a-Nation? The Hike-a-Nation group walked from Ocean Beach, San Francisco, to Washington, D.C. and presented a petition for the creation of a coast-to-coast hiking trail across the United States, which at the time did not exist. The ADT was inspired by Hike-a-Nation though the people involved were not all the same and it is not a direct result of the petition. In particular the current president of the American Discovery Trail Society, Eric Seaborg, is the son of Glenn Seaborg who was one of the Hike-a-Nation leaders. Eric Seaborg was instrumental in establishing the current ADT route and gaining recognition for it. Bob Palin (talk) 20:42, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
