What is this thing?
[edit]I can't find any record (IPNI, TPL, TROPICOS) of Dimocarpus didyma, though the internet is full of Wikipedia scrapings of this name. There's a Euphoria didyma that TPL synonymizes with Litchi chinensis. Some sources suggest Dimocarpus longan subsp. malesianus (with photos of a fruit that is much bumpier than longan). I'm thinking malesianus may be the correct name, but it's not clear to me how didyma entered the picture. Plantdrew (talk) 20:54, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
- Found one fairly prominent source for D. didyma. There's a fairly popular poster of exotic fruits grown in Hawaii (it frequently appear in supermarkets on the Big Island), that uses that name. It can be seen here. There may be other documents on hawaiifruit.net that makes use of this name. Plantdrew (talk) 19:41, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Plantdrew:I have found more or less the same - if the fruit illustrated in W.Commons (at Dimocarpus#Selected species) is truly "Alupag", then I would opt for Dimocarpus longan because the flesh is somewhat transparent. I have added a subspecies section to that page and wonder if it might be var. echinatus. Brgds. Roy Bateman (talk) 17:40, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
