In Latin, the cognate prefix is in-. The prepositional prefix in- is unrelated.

The former often has a long vowel, though (I see on checking) not always; this is reflected in the French contrast between in– and en– respectively. Is the latter ever long? —Tamfang (talk) 00:19, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
