Combine down to one article
It looks like since we moved the 'alum' page and the 'chapter' page, they haven't been being updated, or had additional information added. I say we combine it down to one article again. anyone have objections?
~I'm in agreement with that proposal.
- I moved the chapters back to their own page in order to add more detailed information specific to that topic. I was originally all for keeping it on the main page when it was just a list, but I think expanding it beyond that merits its own page.
New Page
The AKPsi page is getting pretty long. Does anyone have any objections to putting the 315 chapter roster in a separate wiki? (6/25)
nah let's leave it alone, i think it looks better that way. How about some people step up and help update the web page links for the chapters?
Chapter Links
I think we should incorporate the links for the various chapters the chapter roster, perhaps by making the chapter names the hyper link, eg "Pi" being a hyper link to the given chapter. I feel it looks kinda sloppy and disorganized on the bottom.
Chapters with houses
I noticed no one has added this section yet. Which chapters officially have houses? I know of two...University of Georgia and University of Southern California.
Zeta Upsilon at Tennessee Tech has a house. Hunter00047 07:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Beta Xi at Virginia Tech also has a house.
~Florida State has a house, and I'm pretty sure University of Florida and Michigan Tech have houses as well.
- University of Minnesota (Alpha Eta) in Minneapolis has a house! And a nice one at that!
- someone should add in a section for chapters with houses
UC Irvine chapter doesn't have a house
Origins of unofficial mottos?
Who keeps deleting the origins of the unofficial motos? I noticed that the "Mixing Business with Pleasure Since 1904" has been seen quite heavily as of late amongst the south western chapters. Further digging, led me that the Univseristy of Southern California chapter (Alpha Zeta) first used it as a campaign back in Fall 2004 as part of its revamped membership recruitment campaign to make the chapter seem more open and youth-savvy than other business clubs on campus. Any truth to this and if it first started with USC?
I can promise you unequivocally that it has been around much longer than that. I saw that motto when I pledged in F'2000, and have seen shirts older than that with that motto. Sorry!!
- Which chapter have you seen it in? Many of the southern california chapters will tend to favor it started in 2004.
I agree with the individual who saw in in f'00. I know for certain I saw it several times back when I was still an active member between 2001-2003.
- Same goes for the "join us now..work for us later" motto...did that not originate from the UCLA or UCI chapters? I wish there was proof of who started the "Mixing Business and Pleasure..." motto.
- seriously folks, these mottos are all quite old. There is no way of telling what chapter started what slogan and when. the best we might be able to do is say what chapter was first to put it on a Tshirt.
Largest International Biz Fraternity?
Please qualify that this is 1) an international fraternity and 2) if (1) is not true, that it is the largest national fraternity, as Delta Sigma Pi claims to be this. This article needs some work. The history section is much too long. Iheartwiki19 10:44, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Here is Deltasig's national website, where they claim 200K members and that they are instialling their 260th chapter: http://www.dspnet.org/dspmarket/about_us/default.asp. According to their chapter rolls, Deltasig has no active international chapters.
Here is AKPsi's national website, where they claim 230K members: http://www.akpsi.com/about/fraternity_statistics.cfm I was a founding member of the 'Sigma Psi' Chapter which was the 284th installed by AKPsi 5 years ago.
AKPsi has 2 chapters in Canada and 3 in the UK. Additionally, why would the history section being long be viewed as a problem if its comprehensive and accurate? I feel it is fine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.227.196.159 (talk) 16:46, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
I recently added a tag because this article did not have any citations. It has one now for the oldest and largest business fraternity, but after reading the article it only confirms that AKPsi has more chapters at the date of the article. While you could argue the largest fraternity is the one with the most chapters I would think it would be the fraternity with the most members. Specifically, I would say the most living members, but I doubt we will find out that information for both fraternities. As for the claims written above, I believe both sites are approximate with their numbers listing more then 200/230k members vs claiming an exact membership. These figures have changed if you look at their details today and even if these sites did list their current membership I doubt either fraternity is in contact with all of its membership to give us an accurate count. So while I believe the statement is correct, it cannot be proven with approximations and I do not think it should be listed in this article. At least it should be rewritten to state that the fraternity has the most chapters instead of the vague we are the largest comment. Perhaps if the collegiate count for both fraternities can be obtained then it can be stated that AKPsi has the largest collegiate membership. Please give your objective thoughts Abernaki (talk) 18:30, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Alpha Kappa Psi is the largest in both terms of total initiates and current number of initiates per year. These numbers should be available from both organizations. I'll look for the references, and if someone else can find them before I do then feel free to add them. Neither organization does a very good job of keeping its statistics updated on their respective websites unfortunately. BlueGold73 (talk) 18:55, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- I used http://www.akpsi.org/?page=fraternity_facts this page on their website as a reference, and to calculate an approximate total number of initiates, I used the "more than 230,000" from 2004-2005, and then I added the exact initiate numbers from the past 3 years. I think that's about as close to accurate as we can get unless the fraternity provides a more accurate total count in the future. BlueGold73 (talk) 19:08, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Based on the approximations from the organizations' websites, Delta Sigma Pi has more than 220,000 and Alpha Kappa Psi has more than 247,686 total initiates. While these figures are approximate, the difference is nearly 30,000. I would say that is significant enough to determine without a doubt that Alpha Kappa Psi has initiated a significantly larger total. As for total current student members, we have the exact number from Alpha Kappa Psi, but we still need an exact figure from Delta Sigma Pi. Anyone know where to find this information? - Truth doesn't matter. "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth." Refer to Wikipedia policy on this at Wikipedia:Verifiability. I already stated I thought the statement was true. Sadly, we do not have a reliable source and guessing or assuming the data from the websites is good enough equates to putting our own opinion or analysis and is also not allowed through Wikipedia:No_original_research. "This includes... arguments, speculation,... any unpublished analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to advance a position." The position being that AKPsi is larger and the statement does not say it has to be our position that it is advancing. So until a reputable third party (any of the fraternities sites has something to gain WP:SOURCES) writes it (or we find where a third party already has) we have to take it out.
- "I heard it somewhere" pseudo information is to be tagged with a "needs a cite" tag. Wrong. It should be removed, aggressively, unless it can be sourced." This is also from the Wikipedia:Verifiability as a quote from an email from Jimmy Wales. The page has a citation/link so you can read the email. So while we should take this out immediately I would rather have a consensus, so that until a source is found we can just delete the part about AKPsi being larger and have users refer to this discussion before putting the statement back in without finding a source. Again, I think the source is enough to state AKPsi has more chapters, but the general statement that it is larger is not supported by the article. --Abernaki (talk) 00:00, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Just wanted to update information that Delta Sigma Pi might soon take the title largest professional business fraternity. Total Initiates are currently over 242,000. That information is over a year old. They are averaging 6-8k new initiates every year. Any Akp's have any updated statistics on their fraternity so an accurate claim can be made? 69.246.230.255 (talk) 07:53, 31 March 2013 (UTC) Damsulegna2k7
- AKPsi has been averaging more than 6k initiates per year as well, which should put the fraternity at just under 285,000 total initiates by the close of this academic year. At that rate, "soon" may be quite a few years down the road. BlueGold73 (talk) 01:35, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

the Reagan Debate
Someone is continually removing Ronald Reagan from the Alumni list. Recently, they posted the following message:
(Contrary to a common misconseption Ronald Reagan was never an Alpha Kappa Psi member, and there was never an Alpha Kappa Psi chapter at Eureka College where he attended and was in fact a Tau Kappa Epsilon.)
Grammatical errors aside, Ronald Reagan was indeed initiated by the University of Southern California in 1963, an honorary membership bestowed to him for his years of service to the city of Los Angeles and his achievements in the entertainment industry. It is interesting to note that this initiation preceded his entrance into politics.
Here is a news article from AKPsi’s website [[1]] discussing President Reagan’s membership. The article is over a year old, so I believe the images links have been broken, but if you would like, I would happily contact the Heritage Center and ask them to repost a picture of his membership card, complete with his signature.
Being a member of a Professional Fraternity does not disqualify you from being a member of a Social Fraternity. In fact, our CEO Gary Epperson is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and Alpha Kappa Psi.
The discussion pages on wiki are designed to settle disputes such as this. If you have any further questions, please post them here!!
As a member of Alpha kappa psi at USC, I can vouch that he was induction to our fraternity and is signature appears in our initiates list —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.140.131.11 (talk) 03:35, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Copyright
The History section is copied directly out of http://www.akpsi.org/about/history.cfm and http://www.akpsi.com/about/history_2.cfm As we do not have permission from the board or the national webmaster we cannot post this. Actually permission is not enough as they must agree to release the content under the GFDL. As far as I know they have not. I have emailed Mr. Mendoza at akpsi.org and he has responded that he will get back to me.
Also a large part of the Women's history section looks taken from there too. A few words have been taken out or moved around, but it looks way to close for coincidence.
As the section is quite large I have refrained from taking it immediately to see what the other editors have to say, but it should be taken out or rewritten for the time being until we receive conformation that the content of the pages has been released. Remember Wikipedia Copyright is policy not a guideline. --Abernaki 15:15, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
History section is fine. I was told that information on the history page at akpsi.com is public domain. --Abernaki 02:44, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
State Gov's
Just curious, but where did we get this info from? It's great!
- That came from old handbook edition issues of The Diary. I have editions 1 (1934) through 6 (1971). I believe there were a few more editions after that, so if anyone has them then they can probably add some additional people. I'll work on expanding the senators, congressmen, and judges next.
Newest Chapter
I added the University of South Carolina as the latest chapter, Beta Upsilon of Alpha Kappa Psi, and it was removed. I know it is a fact because I was just initiated at the University of South Carolina and we are proud of our chapter. Any idea why this was removed?
- It's already on the list at #65 because it was originally chartered in 1948.
Fair use rationale for Image:Diary1928.jpg
Image:Diary1928.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

History section
I've fully removed the history section (up to the expansion into Canada). It was a direct copyright violation of this page. Despite the claim made above about it being public domain, there is a very, very clear copyright notice at the bottom of the page and a disclaimer that all rights were reserved. We absolutely cannot keep this information in the article unless offered proof (not just "I think..." or "I talked to someone...") that this is usable. There is an official way to get permission to use copyrighted information, but I'm not sure what page that process is on.
On another note, the history section was very incomplete. It just sort of stopped at 1904 and was already way too long anyway. I can't imagine how ridiculous the section would have been if it had the entire history. This really needs to be a short timeline, maybe 4 or 5 paragraphs max, not this play-by-play, excessively detailed monster. --132 19:01, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Today an IP address's edits were reverted. I reinstated them for two reasons. The first is that the regional directors list is almost impossible to keep current and none of it is sourced. The second is that the Title XI section has zero non-primary sources, which are generally not reliable. If I recall correctly, the section was also heavily lifted from the main site, which is not allowed. Get some reliable sources, make sure the wording isn't plagiarized, and then they can be included. Until then, any edits to reinstate them should be reverted. Thank you. --132 07:08, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with deleting the regional director section. That doesn't belong in this article. The Title IX related section was not the section that was heavily lifted from the main site. It was removed later by an anonymous user without any discussion. It appears that one of the main sources is no longer available so I won't add it back at this time. BlueGold73 (talk) 00:21, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- I wasn't completely sure about the Title IX stuff, so thanks for clearing that up! :) --132 01:06, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Attorney Joseph L. Russell gave me the Greatest Love of all. Laughter after notice I found life does go on with and with more less meaningful. His alumnae Network in 1961 was Howard Universities and mine the HUBC. As reliable as his following I under classed them specific reasoning. To live life accordingly. It is after my younger siblings; marriage is the institutions and partnerships are more becomingly. I say hello to Claudia M. Eubanks as I look forward to my transpiring gift. Acronym?
- In its name, what are the Greek letters ΑΚΨ (ακψ) an acronym of? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:38, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- There are no verifiable published references for that information, so you're not going to find it posted or discussed here. As with most fraternities, the only way to find out would be to be initiated into the fraternity. BlueGold73 (talk) 13:37, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
