Article Translations

[edit]

I tried to improve the article by enhancing the translation of the few paragraphs which were already translated, and by expanding the article itself, using the original italian article as a source. This is the link to the sandbox containing the changes; I would appreciate any kind of comment and/or feedback: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Destiny1016/sandbox Destiny1016 (talk) 20:30, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I did a first pass at cleaning up the first four paragraphs. I used the original Italian version as the basis of the changes. It needs more work, but it is hard to switch between "Italian brain" and "English brain" I will take a second pass just focusing on the english at a later date and finish up the rest of the article. Also, the Italian article has many more sections, I will translate/clean up those too and add them to the english version. Pearl2525 (talk) 17:53, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and cleaned up the balance of the article. I incorporated some of Destiny's excellent work. There is still a great deal more information on the Italian version that could be translated. I will also look at the cited source to see if more in-line citations can be added.Pearl2525 (talk) 06:14, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected some of the grammar and added a few wiki-links. If we could add the italian references to the page, or find a suitable english reference, that would be great: This article is dangerously low on sources and in-line citations. Also, in regards to "Santuario della Madonna del Bosco", I'm not sure of the translation: Should it say "the Madonna of the Forest" or should it just be "Madonna of the Forest"? The use of "Madonna" in Italian has me confused. Thanks! Greedo8 16:16, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately the Italian page also lacks in-line references, however, I have found sources for a lot of the information which I went ahead and added. As for the translation of "Santuario della Madonna del Bosco" I did a literal translation, would "Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of the Forest" make more sense?Pearl2525 (talk) 18:00, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is "Virgin Mary" an accurate translation of "Madonna"? If so, another possible translation could be "The Virgin Mary's Forest Sanctuary," which makes more sense. Greedo8 18:15, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes; the Virgin Mary is referred to as "La Madonna" in Italy, never as "Maria" or any other way. The name of the church really is Virgin Mary/Madonna of the Forest..."del Bosco" litterally means "of the forest" so I do not think "The Virgin Mary's Forest Sanctuary" is an accurate translation.Pearl2525 (talk) 18:35, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
well actually now that I think about it the Virgin Mary is sometimes referred to as "Santa Maria" but if that were the case the name of the church would have been "Santa Maria del Bosco" so under the circumstances I think the most accurate translation is "Sanctuary of the VIrgin Mary of the Forest"Pearl2525 (talk) 18:35, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, can "del" not refer to possession? For example, "cibo del cane" - "food of the dog" which is better translated as "the dog's food". I support your change to "Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of the Forest", as it seems acceptable. Greedo8 18:43, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
hmmm, yes you are right, but I do not think so in this case, but let me email my sister and see what she thinks, her Italian is better than mine, so I may be wrong. Pearl2525 (talk) 18:59, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I did more research on the name of the church. It was build on a site that used to be heavily wooded and where it is said that many miracles took place, so based on that I believe the correct translation is "Shrine of Our Lady of the Woods" I will change the article to reflect this.Pearl2525 (talk) 21:38, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Good job, thanks! Greedo8 15:45, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth I had another go at it, there are still some badly phrased bits but I think I managed to improve it quite a bit. I removed it from the cleanup category for now, obviously feel free to reinsert it if the quality still seems too low. The main issue seems to be inline references, but I'll leave that to some braver soul! Zidanie5 (talk) 22:18, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

multiple issues banner

[edit]

I know this article is not perfect, but I think most of the issues flagged by the "multiple issues banner" have been addressed. I vote to have it removed. Any thoughts? Pearl2525 (talk) 00:02, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
