Old house location
[edit]The cellars of the old house are under the lawns between the church and the present house. Therefore, the new house is west of the old. If you take your orientation from the church, it feels like it's east because you approach the church from the north rather than the usual south. I have informed the original source of the error. Location
[edit]Using a compass, if you stand immediately at the entrance to the 1636 house cellar stairway, the new (1848) house is directly south. The church from this point is north-north east. Because of the proximity of the cellar stairway to the churchyard, around 30 metres, this stairway would have almost certainly stood in the centre or eastern part of the house. To back this up there are prints that can be viewed currently in the house (hotel) showing the front of the 1636 house to the west of the church. This would appear to confirm the above location with the cellar entrance probably being to the rear of the 1636 house and relatively central. 8/2/09 TPalmer —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.29.95 (talk) 11:20, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
