Sexuality
Hello.
I'd like to discuss the contents of the "Sexuality" section of the article. It appears it has been written strictly from the point of view of Americans, even though two of its sources are actually BBC News.
Let's take a look at File:World laws pertaining to homosexual relationships and expression.svg. What's the point of view on this matter in countries colored brown, dark orange, light orange and yellow?
Cheers.

Cites for "Appearances" and "Characterisation" sections?
Hello, I am going to tag the "Appearances" section with a {{RefImprove section}} since it is missing references to specific pages of the HP book series. Before this causes a mini-storm (or potential edit war), I thought I'd make my intentions clear. :) -MayureshK 11:20, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

Please replace "Jude Law will be playing the role of a less older Dumbledore..." with "Jude Law will be playing the role of a younger Dumbledore...". "less older" is an awkward and clumsy construction. Thank you. 5.151.0.107 (talk) 17:47, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
- Actually there are contexts where "less older" would be appropriate, but this is not one of them; it should be "less younger" as the immediately preceding sentence concerns the portrayal of an even younger version of the character. 5.151.0.107 (talk) 17:51, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
- I agree. Done PS: Keep those inputs coming :) -MayureshK 18:47, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
Dumbledore's age
This page states that Dumbledore is somewhere between the ages of 115 (seemingly evidenced by the books) and 150 (stated by Rowling), but in The Goblet of Fire, we see: "...'the Heads of the participating schools [Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang] are always on the panel [of the Triwizard Tournament],' said Hermione, and everyone looked around at her, rather surprised, 'because all three of them were injured during the Tournament of 1792, when a cockatrice the champions were supposed to be catching went on the rampage.' She noticed them all looking at her and said, with her usual air of impatience that nobody else had read all the books she had, 'It’s all in Hogwarts: A History'..."
If we assume that the champions were all in school during the Triwizard Tournament (seeing as the competition is between schools), that would put Dumbledore (and Karkaroff and Madame Maxime) between the ages of 11 and 17 in 1792, meaning that in 2005 (assuming the books take place during the same year in which they were published), Dumbledore would have been between 224 and 230 years old when he passed away.
The Wits and Wagers game we have states that he's 115. Is my math or understanding of the text incorrect? ReiterWriter (talk) 01:29, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- Nothing you have stated there shows Dumbledore, Karkaroff or Maxime were alive in 1792. You seem to have a very serious misunderstanding of what the words you quoted mean. Kylesenior (talk) 05:52, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

At the end of the third sentence, please change "...Lord Voldemort." to "...Lord Voldemort, the chief antagonist in the series." (Later-revealed backstory elements are less important in some cases, so it ought to be explained that this is a critical aspect of the general story.) Also, please link the word "headmaster" in the first sentence. 208.95.51.53 (talk) 19:11, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
- Partly done. I added the text, but not the link. Per MOS:OVERLINK,

Links to "Ariana", "Kendra" and "Percival"
There are some links in this page that redirects back to "Albus Dumbledore" page, incorrectly in my opinion. At least the links "Ariana Dumbledore", "Kendra Dumbledore" and "Percival Dumbledore" all redirects to "Albus Dumbledore". This is not right, if there isn't a specific page to redirect to, it shouldn't exist a link. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucas Gossenheimer (talk • contribs) 22:44, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- Change redirect to Backstory section of the article. The previous redirects led to a non-existent Family section. El Millo (talk) 00:38, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Death
Dumbledore was not murdered; anyone who has this view is wrong as they obviously have not read the last book properly. He arranged his death willingly, so it was a suicide, not a murder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.149.111.115 (talk) 03:03, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- I agree. In Book7, there is a sentence that literally says that. He could have killed Snape if he needed to. 69.248.65.55 (talk) 15:59, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- This is debatable: First of all, he was mortally wounded by the curse of the ring he had put on his finger, so that he knew (from Snape's evaluation) that he would have about a year left. Second, he obviously knew about Draco Malfoy's mission (imposed upon him by you-know-who), even if he might not have known the identity of the intended killer. So in my estimation, the less incorrect description would be "forced suicide", or "euthanasia", similar to how deathly ill muggles in some cases arrange their own deaths. It says in the personality section that it is seen during his final confrontation with Voldemort, and then goes on to show a quote. However, that quote is from the Goblet of Fire when he confronts Barth Crouch Jr (as Mad-eye Moody). 2A02:C7F:DC0D:6C00:6183:F388:CBFB:B045 (talk) 09:06, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

The article lists the first book/movie of the Harry Potter series as being “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” when it’s actually the Sorcerer’s Stone. 2600:8804:674F:100:D96F:823A:399:D0C1 (talk) 02:26, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
- The Sorcerer's Stone is the title in America only. The actual title of the book and film both in the original British and in most of the rest of the world is the Philosopher's Stone. —El Millo (talk) 02:29, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
Family correction
The article lists Dumbledore‘s nephew as Aurelius, but in the Fantastic Beasts movie, the Secrets of Dumbledore, his nephew‘s name is Creedence. (Please check the spelling though). 2601:246:CE00:1BF1:D554:6610:97EC:438C (talk) 02:59, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Dumbledore's Sexuality Rewrite
Hello, I realize making a giant edit to a web page for a prominent Harry Potter character the day his actor passed away is going to raise some eyebrows, so I wanted to explain what I wrote, post the version I put in the article, and solicit some feedback because I admit I am often very wordy.
Basically, the section first had a problem that some of its references were out of date, with some of the articles actually no longer containing the content they were referencing. The template at the bottom of the article also included two "external links" that were just about Dumbledore's sexuality that weren't relevant - that section is just meant to link offsite to other free wikis. I did try to incorporate one of the links into the article when in my research I found a Washington Post editorial that directly referenced the Nancy podcast. I tried my best to keep as many of the original references as possible.
Second issue, the Sexuality section seemed to just be a jumbled group of quotes without either context from why the discussion was happening or was relevant to the article, and also without a lot of continuity from reference to reference. I tried to keep all of the sources and either group them better or give more context. In two cases I had to replace a reference because the current version of the article didn't contain the referenced text anymore (as opposed to a 404) but they had themselves been quoting a better source so it made more sense to just replace them.
Finally, I noticed the section simply stopped with a quote about Rowling referring to future depictions in the Fantastic Beasts series of Dumbledore's sexuality with the enigmatic "watch this space" from 2016. It stopped there. Well, that was seven years ago now, a lot has happened, two more movies came out, and the character's sexuality is still a pretty regular topic of discussion in news and academia as well as just entertainment. But as the section already had been discussing reactions to the original JK Rowling Q&A where she revealed Dumbledore was gay, I felt the more negative reactions that have happened since 2007 that are more relevant to the character's use in recent projects needed to be addressed and unfortunately, most of it has been accusations of queer baiting. The Queerbaiting article currently includes this franchise and Dumbledore on its page and I recycled its source to stay consistent between the two articles. I tried to be very careful in writing this part and stick only to what notable commentators had said and use as much of their own words as possible. I also really wanted to only stick to what was relevant to Dumbledore.
I don't want people to think I'm trolling the article or agenda pushing, I just want to make sure that if there's a section discussing reactions to Dumbledore's sexuality, it needs to include both the initial reactions from 2007 and the shift in attitudes since then that particularly accelerated in the late 2010s and early 2020s. 15 years is a long time.
