University at Buffalo edits
[edit]Preface: this is a bit moot because another editor has replaced the source with a different one. But I thought I could clear something up about your edits to University at Buffalo. You kept removing 2017 stats that you said were from a source from 2015. But the source you were removing reads like this:
"UB at a Glance". Buffalo.edu. Retrieved September 12, 2015.
The Retrieved date of something is set using the accessdate=
parameter in the {{cite}}
template. This merely indicates how recently the URL was actually checked by an editor. It does not necessarily indicate the freshness of the information at that source. As I'm sure you are aware, there are many web pages that contain info that is constantly updated by the owner. This is one of those pages. If you click the link, you'll see it currently contains stats from 2017 and even 2018.
There's a way to separately indicate the date of the information at the source, that is with the date=
parameter of the {{cite}}
template. Unfortunately that web page doesn't really declare when it was last updated, so its hard to know what to put there.
I thought I would clear that up for you and @ElKevbo: who as I indicated already replaced the source with something from a third party. This was never a hoax, it was merely a misunderstanding about how a date should be interpreted. For future reference, I've updated the source in the article to indicate it contains info up to 2018 as of today, by populating both of those {{cite}}
parameters.

- I know very well what the accessdate thing does. It's a statement that you read the source on the date in question and that it had the information in question at that time. Such a statement is obviously wrong in this kind of situation, and it must not be tolerated. 208.95.51.53 (talk) 17:20, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Um, okay. So why didn't you check the source to verify that the referenced data was correct on the page, and then update the
accessdate=
parameter to reflect the date when you checked? Clearly those statistics are useful to readers of the article, and deleting them simply because the editor before you neglected to update a date parameter is not super productive. Please try to assume good faith when editing. Thank you. --Krelnik (talk) 14:01, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
