I'll take a look at this. Harrias talk 18:46, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]
  • In the Footnotes, for "Keynes, Simon (2014)" in "Lapidge, Michael; Blair, John; Keynes, Simon; Scragg, Donald", you use the short footnote "Keynes 2014" with harvard linking, but for "Page, R. I. (2006)" in "Holmberg, B.; Nielsen, M. L.; Stoklund, M.", you use the short footnote Stoklund et al., Runes and their Secrets, with no harvard linking. Be consistent.
Fixed. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:14, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • In fact, now that I pay attention, "Page, R. I. (2006)" is included in Further reading, where it should be in the main section of Sources.
Also fixed. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:15, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Archibald, Marion M.; Fenwick. V. H.; Cowell, M.R. (1996). "A sceat of Ethelbert I of East Anglia and Recent Finds of Coins of Beonna". British Numismatic Journal. 65: 1–19." is included in both the main section of Sources and Further reading, remove from the latter.
Removed duplicate source. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:17, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The links for "Archibald, Marion M. (1985)" and "Archibald, Marion M.; Cowell, M.R.; Fenwick, V.H. (1996)." don't work for me, can you confirm if they work your end? (If not, it isn't a major issue, there is another information given anyway.)
I can download them both from here. Happy to send them to you if you wish, just email me for both files. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:23, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Keynes, Simon (2014)" has "Chichester, UK" as the location, but "Plunkett, Steven (2005)" just has "Stroud".

Images

I looked at other coin files in Wikicommons and and found a way to amend the information about Æthelberht's coin so the tag could go. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:47, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Both images have suitable captions; consider adding alt text, but it is not a GA requirement.

Prose

[edit]

Lead

  • "was an eighth century ruler" "eighth century" is being used as an adjective here, so should be hyphenated.
Done. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:09, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "and he is believed to have also shared rule with a supposed ruler named Hun." This seems a bit repetitive; "believed" and "supposed" are synonymous, and "rule" and "ruler"... Maybe tighten it to something like "He shared the kingdom with Beonna and possibly another leader, named Hun."
Sentence amended. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:13, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..and maintaining a military alliance with Æthelbald." Who? Æthelbald is introduced without explanation here.
Sentence amended. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:19, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "East Anglia was probably drawn into the affairs of 757, when Beornred ruled in Mercia, but after Offa seized power, Beonna was still ruling in East Anglia." Again, there seems to be more going on than has been explained here; what affairs of 757?
Ouch, sentence rewritten. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:29, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Background

  • "Ælfwald was the last of the Wuffingas dynasty, who ruled East Anglia since the 6th century. The East Anglian pedigree in the Anglian collection, which was probably compiled for Ælfwald, lists his descendants." These two sentences at the end of the section are unreferenced. The first could do with "had" being added in: "who had ruled East Anglia".
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 14:56, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Joint rule with Beonna

Italics removed. Amitchell125 (talk) 15:08, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Until about thirty years ago" Specify when; if no one updates this for another 10 years, the current way it is written will become inaccurate.
Sentence amended. Amitchell125 (talk) 15:12, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..as originally suggested by H. M. Chadwick." When?
1905, fixed. Amitchell125 (talk) 15:38, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The historian Steven Plunkett has suggested that the Hun- element in the annal was at some time joined with the -beanna element in error by a scribe." Can this be expanded on, to explicitly say here that there was a possible third leader, named Hun?
Section expanded (your comment are welcome!) Amitchell125 (talk) 18:05, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Beonna is not a typical East Anglian Wuffingas name, but might be connected with a powerful Mercian family. Alberht alliterates suitably with several Wuffingas names and could be accepted as a shortened form of the name Æthelberht. It is therefore possible that when Ælfwald died, Alberht continued the dynastic line,[5] being a direct descendant or from a cadet line, and accepted a division of power with a Mercian royal representative in order to continue the rule of the Wuffingas." This whole paragraph is very speculative, and could do with more inline attribution, to explain who is speculating, as Wikipedia itself should not. It is also unreferenced from "being a direct descendant..".
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 19:35, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Similarly, the final paragraph of this section is entirely unreferenced.
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 19:35, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Coinage

  • Some unreferenced content here too, and lots of "probably"s which could do with inline attribution.
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 20:38, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to leave it there for the moment. Overall, the article needs a fair bit of work on referencing; I haven't completely a detailed prose review of the Coinage section yet. Harrias talk 20:36, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Prose 2

[edit]
  • Link Ælfwald of East Anglia on first use in the Background section, and specify what the "small kingdom" was in the prose, rather than hiding it away in the link. The body should standalone from the lead.
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 21:22, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..since the 6th century." To be consistent with the lead, maybe change this to "sixth century"?
Done. Amitchell125 (talk) 21:13, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The East Anglian pedigree in the Anglian collection, which was probably compiled in 725 or 726 during the reign of Ælfwald, lists his descendants." "descendants" are family members that live after a person; can you clarify that is what is intended here, rather than "ancestors"?
Done. Amitchell125 (talk) 21:41, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..in the second half of the 9th century." Again, this could be changed to "ninth century".
Done. Amitchell125 (talk) 21:11, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The coinage section gets very technical, and I admit that I got a bit lost, but wikilinks are provided for all technical terms, and I doubt there is much that can be done to resolve this.
Sorry about that—and the detailed technicalities in books on coins is off the scale... Amitchell125 (talk) 21:09, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Overall, I am much happier with the article now, and with a few remaining fixes on the referencing and prose, we should be done. Harrias talk 08:32, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

All my concerns have now been resolved, and I'm happy that this meets the GA criteria. Harrias talk 08:57, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
