Death Date

[edit]

Somebody added an entry saying that Rosen died last week (March 2, 2006). Nothing has appeared on the wires, and the death of a legendary ballplayer would be headline news. Could someone please provide a source to confirm that Rosen died? Otherwise, I think the death date should be removed. --Anson2995 16:20, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've searched high and low and can't find a single source to confirm that Al Rosen has died. There are no wire stories. There's nothing in any of the Cleveland area papers or in the papers where he lives (Riverside County, CA). The death of such a prominent player would not be hard to confirm at sll, so given the absence of any evidence, I removed the announcement that Rosen has died. --Anson2995 15:17, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Rosen lives you fool.[reply]

1954

[edit]

The section on the (tragic, I was a nine-year old Indian fan) 1954 WS says that the Giants won because of one Home Run or that is the impression it gives. It was a four-zero sweep. I think that should be changed 71.234.42.229 14:17, 4 August 2007 (UTC) Will in New Haven[reply]

All-Time Redass Team

[edit]

Rosen is the starter at Third on my All-Time Redass Team, beating out some tough competition. While he is one of my favorite players ever and often had a good excuse, Rosen's pugnacity was noticable from the stands and on TV on many occasions. 71.234.42.229 14:17, 4 August 2007 (UTC) Will in New Haven[reply]

3 home runs in a game...

[edit]

...is not the Indians record, and has not been since June 10, 1959. I will correct to say "then-record." Mds001 (talk) 14:24, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Illegal Bat

[edit]

For somebody who has more time than I have: I came across newspaper articles about his illegal bat in 1954:

Year in the Yankee farm system

[edit]

I think this is interesting and could be added: Rosen played for the Yankees' Kansas City farm team in 1948, going .327/.422/.578, after winning the Texas League MVP for Cleveland's affiliate in 1947. Rosen was loaned out to Kansas City for the season in exchange for reliever Charlie Wensloff, who threw just 1.2 innings with the Indians before his career ended. Thus, the Yankees controlled one of the Indians top prospects while the two teams were in a fierce pennant fight. Could also be placed in the Charlie Wensloff article. The UPI story, April 15, 1948 says, "The option, to last through the 1948 season, was part of a deal Monday in which the Tribe acquired pitcher Charlie Wensloff from the New York Yankees." https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1129&dat=19480415&id=G9kNAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Y2oDAAAAIBAJ&pg=4501,3496716 Arnold Rothstein1921 (talk) 00:02, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I added this material, just stated the transaction because I wanted to avoid original research or point of view problems.Arnold Rothstein1921 (talk) 01:35, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
