Page help

This page has many personalised statements and some poor spelling and grammar. Does anyone who knows anything more about the sport than myself want to carry out some changes to it or should I do so? --Chrisblore 08:51, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I would certainly be willing to help out, having written a fair chunk of the article myself. It seems that it could use quite a bit of editing in terms of structure and repetative information. --Shane Lin

I am planning to carry out sweeping changes - reorganization, removing some irrelevant stuff, adding manufacturer information (the article is biased towards Tokyo Marui) - Classic Army, TOP, and all the other ones need to be delved on. Also maybe some talk about power limit controversies in the UK. Been playing airsoft for years now, and reckon I know quite a bit (written a lot of stuff before). Jakob14 10:44, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I agree with you, there is some irrelevant biased info. But should it be removed or should someone add info from other manufacturers? Example: EG motors, we all know that Systema also has motors. Other example springs Mnnn is also a spring rating used by several manufacturers but not all. All this just to say that biased info should be reorganized. Irrelevant info should be removed but with care, we don’t want to lose something important. Some sections like "2.3. Automatic Electric Guns" and "2.4.5. Gears" are clearly biased.

Ideas

If someone has knowledge about the following sections it could be a good help to add them to the article:

- Technical info for choosing scopes/red dots. (Parallax effect, parallax max. distance, red dot size measure) just superficial, we don’t want to have a scope/red dot article.

- Batteries section, additional info relating battery usage with spring, motor, gearbox parts,... Also battery usage regarding charge/discharge.

- Motors technical information section (torque, ROF,...).

- Upgrade vs FPS. It would be nice (impossible?) to have a section were someone could see the approximate result (FPS) for each upgrade (well just an approximate value).

- Upgrade requirements. A table with information about each upgrade vs required upgrades. Example: if I want to add an M120 spring what parts should I change? Or if I want to add a 12V battery what parts should I change?

- New sections for MAEG's and AEP's are also waiting for someone to start them.

- Protection section is also incomplete; some info about standard’s to look for while buying glasses would be nice.

Definitions

I've noticed that in different parts of the article the words MUZZLE, PELLET and BULLET are used in a mixed ways and sometimes giving the wrong meaning. For example "muzzle velocity".

Fist some definitions:

Gun muzzle is the open circular discharging end of a gun.

Gun muzzle is the open end of the barrel from which the projectile exits.

Pellet is a small sphere.

Pellet is a solid missile discharged from a firearm.

Bullet is a projectile that is fired from a gun.

Bullet is the projectile expelled from a gun. Bullets can be of many materials, shapes, weights and constructions such as solid lead, lead with a jacket of harder metal, round-nosed, flat-nosed, hollow-pointed, etc.

Based on this definitions I think that some changes should be done to the article. Like:

muzzle velocity => pellet velocity

6mm muzzle => 6mm pellet

muzzle energy => pellet energy

bullet => pellet

Does everyone agree?

Somewhat agree, I think 'pellet' or 'airsoft pellet' is the best term for the projectiles. 'muzzle velocity' and 'muzzle energy' are universal terms for dealing with all other projectile devices (firearms, BB guns, canons, etc) and should be used. So, I think this is appropriate:

• muzzle velocity, muzzle energy, etc => keep
• 6mm muzzle => 6mm barrel
• bullet, BB, etc => pellet

I removed a link added in this edit because it seems like the link is authored by the same user who added it. If someone else wishes to restore the link, they may, but I first suggest a quick read-through of the page. Material merging from AEG

This material was at AEG. Most of it is already here in the Automatic Electric Guns paragraph. I left a reference to airsoft#Automatic Electric Guns on the AEG page.

AEG CONCERNING AIRSOFT: In the Military Simulation game of Airsoft, an AEG (or Automatic Electric Gun) uses a motor and three gears to cycle a piston at an average rate of 700 rounds per minute. These quick bursts of compressed air fire out a 6mm ABS plastic BB, at about 280 feet per second in a stock configuration.

These guns are the used most commonly in Airsoft skirmishes, as they look very realistic, and offer the greatest variety of modern firearm replicas. Also, their ease of use (only a battery is necessary, unlike the guns that run off of compressed gas) makes them the most popular gun to own and use in serious battles.

The main manufacturer of AEGs, Tokyo Marui, has been in the business the longest. While their guns are only equipped with a ABS plastic body, they are still considered to be the most reliable guns. Classic Army and ICS have proven themselves recently, moving up from their primitive, unreliable AEGs to their more recent, perfected guns. These two brands equip their guns with a solid metal body, making them a joy to hold and fire.

I've read somewhere that wikipedia airsoft article was good because it had no pictures, but even so I also think that a minor use of pictures would be ok. (anonymous)

Let's not use the term "weapons"

Let's not call these guns weapons under any circumstances. In the US at least they are categorized as toys. "Airsoft gun", "airsoft rifle", "airsoft pistol", etc are more accurate.

Too much unnecessary info

Suggest we remove some of the detailed gun-specific info... is this really the right place to tell people how to pick their guns, what kind of motors are in them, etc? - Zhyla

I agree there's too much detail in the section on guns. I'm just not sure what is trivia that can be removed and what is worth keeping or moving. RJFJR 01:44, Apr 30, 2005 (UTC)

It's very much bogged down in trivia. You both just need to be bold and start whittling away at it. Some might get put back in, taken out again, or whatever, but that's part of the process. Gene Nygaard 08:37, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Physics section should stay, there is alot of people that doesn't know how to compare Paintball high energy with Airsoft low energy. (Anonymous)

Well, I think I already nuked that... not that we can't put it back in of course. The energy table is still there with the 3g paintball row though. We can certainly mention the average momentums are much less than in paintball but this isn't AirsoftVsPaintball, it's just Airsoft. - Zhyla
