::According to modern historian Jeffrey Greenhunt on military history, "The Martial Race theory had an elegant symmetry. Indians who were intelligent and educated were defined as cowards, while those defined as brave were uneducated and backward". According to Amiya Samanta, the marital race was chosen from people of mercenary spirit (a soldier who fights for any group or country that will pay him/her), as these groups lacked nationalism as a trait. Incorrect info
To experts @RegentsPark:, @Fowler&fowler:, @Slatersteven:, It has been pointed out here that Morchopna, Bodanones, Bhandaria were princely states, I couldn't find a reliable references describing it as such. On the other hand, what I found is they were just small villages with very low population and revenue. This is what I found wrt to Bodanones, here - [[2]] some table of Raj-Era and it doesn't clears out the full details of it. I don't think it was any such state. RS6784 (talk) 08:13, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

There is no need to mention sanskritisation in first paragraph, secondly it is related to Yadavs and not Ahirs. And at the last if there is separate paragraph for sanakritisation no need to mention it in lead.
All disruption made by User RS6784 must be reversed.
- Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the

To prevent edit wars in this page I would suggest the administrator of this page to remove the “Non-elite” word from the page
it is very evident that people from Ahir community have held important positions as leaders and chiefs in the past and cannot be called “traditionally non elite” as it is a bit offensive towards some people
Also i would be happy to edit this page if permission given !

change North India distribution to include Ahirwal region. Ahirwal is a region spanning parts of southern Haryana , north-eastern Rajasthan, and South-Western Delhi The region was once a small principality based from the town of Rewari and controlled by members of the Yaduvanshi Ahir community from around the time when the Mughal empire was in decline. Geographically, the Ahirwal region spreads across Gurgaon, Rewari, Mahendergarh, parts of Bhiwani and Jhajjar in Haryana and Alwar, Neem ka Thana and parts of Jhunjhunu, Kotpuli(in Jaipur) in Rajasthan, and Najafgarh and surrounding area in South West Delhi.

Change description from "Ahir or Aheer are a community of traditionally non-elite pastoralists in India", Ahir or Aheer are a community of traditionally agriculturist, warrior caste and engaged in animal husbandry
As the British census,1881 says In the Punjáb they are now almost exclusively agricultural, and stand in quite the first rank as husbandmen, being as good as the Kamboh and somewhat superior to the Jat. [2]
Ahir is a fighting caste from historical background. In 1920, the British government classified the Ahirs as an "agricultural caste", which at that time was synonymous with a " combatant caste", they had been recruited in the army for a long time. The British Government had formed four companies of Ahirs, two of which were in the 95th Russell Infantry. The bravery and sacrifice of Ahir soldiers at the Rejangla front by the Ahir Company of 13 Kumaon Regiment during the Indo-China war of 1962 is still praised in India. And in memory of his bravery the battle site memorial was named "Ahir Dham". They also serve in the "Rajput Regiment", "Kumaon Regiment", "Jat Regiment", "Rajputana Rifles", "Bihar Regiment", "Grenadiers" of the Indian Army. Even today, single units of Ahirs are present in armored corps and artillery in the Indian armed forces.

1)Adminstrators could add the picture of famous Ahir Ruler Rao Tula Ram in History or military involvement section.
2) Sanskritisation could be added in History section instead of making a separate column and was added without any consensus. Sources say that the Ahirs used Yadavs long before the sanskritisation 3)The Yadavs, who in their turn are identified with the Ahirs and Gaolis, were the dominant race at that time. To be added in the lead which seems to be written from a derogatory pov. [3]

From Khandesh through Nashik, the Ahir Community is spread across parts of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra. This community is mainly found in the bordering talukas of Nashik like Sangamner, Kopargaon, Rahta, Srirampur. In Maharashtra older generation of the Ahirs dress and jewelery are similar to the Rajasthani Gujarati Ahir community. The new generation has adopted the local customs and dress. The Bhadanaka Kingdom was a medieval kingdom in India that included the Rewari, Bhiwani, Mahendragarh regions of Haryana and parts of Alwar in Rajasthan during the 11th and 12th centuries. According to historian Prof. Dashratha Sharma they were of Ahir caste. [1] [2] 183.83.153.97 (talk) 16:29, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Add Tijara kingdom of Ahirs into kingdom section under early history
In 850 Vikram Samvat, Yadav King Charu Rao was the king of Tijara.[5]
The state of Rewari was carved out of a jungle-jagir by Rao Ruda Singh, an Ahir noble of Tijara, in 1555. Ruda Singh made Bolni village, south of Haryana his headquarters, 12 km to the east. He cleared the forests and established new villages

Ahirs as Yadavs
The term Ahir is often seen as synonymous with Yadav, because these are two names of the same community.[7][8] In the 1881 census records of the British empire, the Yadavs are identified as Ahirs.[9] The Mahabharata and other authori-tative works use the three terms-Ahir, Yadav and Gopa synonymous.[10][11] 2409:4085:8D1D:4B36:0:0:8849:DA09 (talk) 18:23, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Besides this mythical origin of the Yadavas, semi-historical and historical evidence exists for equating the Ahirs with the Yadavas. ... In the Mahabharata, Abhir, Gopa, Gopal and Yadavas are all synonyms.
- ^ Guha (2006), p. 47:P. M. Chandorkar, using both literary and epigraphic sources has argued that the modern Ahirs and Gavlis - until recently cattle-keepers - should be identified with the Yadavas and Abhiras of the classical Sanskrit texts. He also notes that Khandesh, on the margin of the central Indian forests, was earlier known as the land of the Ahirs, and the local Marathi dialect continued to be called Ahirani.

Tradition says that the Ahirs in the Pandya country came to Tamilakam along with the ancestors of the Pandyas (KLT, verse 104: 4-6). Potiya mountain region was known as Ay-kudi. The capital of that region is also called Ay-kudi. In his commentary on the prefatory sutra to the Tolkappiyam, Nacchinarkiniyar describes a tradition relating to the migration of the Yadava race as follows: The sage Agastya repaired to Dwaraka and taking with him 18 kings of the line of Krsna, 18 families of Véls or Vélirs and others, moved to the South with the Aruvalar tribes. There, he had the forests cleared and built up kingdoms settling therein all the people he had brought with him. ...M. Raghava Iyengar held that the popularity of the worship of Krsna in the ancient Tamilakam might be partly due to the influence of the Vélirs who are often referred to in the Sangam works. He has clearly shown that the Velirs referred to in the Sangam works belonged to the 18 Kudi-vélirs of the descendants of the Yadu-kula to which Krsna also belonged, and that the Velirs migrated from Dwarapati, and settled in different parts of South India." The Ay-Vélir kings of later period also mention in their copper plate charters that they belonged to the Yadu-kula of Krsna. ...The Ay kings continued to cherish their association with Yadu-kula and Krsna in the later times also as seen in their copper plate grants and inscriptions.

Thus this Yaddu-dvara (the gate named after the Yaduvamsi i.e. prove the occupation of the kailashkuta by the Gupta-abhiras). Chudásama prince styled Graharipu and ruling at Vanthali near Junagadh is described in the Dyáshraya-Kávya of Hemachandra as an Abhira and a Yádava. In their bardic traditions as well as in popular stories, the Chudásamas are still called Aheraránás. ... Again, many ancient remains in the Khándesh district are popularly believed to belong to the period of the Gauli Ráj. From the Archæological point of view, they are to be ascribed to the time of the Yádavas of Devagiri. It is, therefore, not unlikely that, according to popular belief, these Yádavas were Abhiras. This receives some support from the fact that Yaduvanshis even now are one of the most important sub-divisions of the Ahirs.
