Can a city that is "86.96% White" really "boast" of a 6.9% Hispanic population or a "highly visible" 1.7% Iranian population?

While I believe the statistics are important to have, perhaps it could be written less...POV? It just seems like it's written by the tourism board trying to convince the reader of its diversity. For that matter why don't they "boast" of their 6.5% Native American population.

I don't want to make an anonymous edit, so if someone else agrees please change it. 129.59.183.204 (talk) 22:22, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do know the fact members of the local Chumash tribe reside in the Agoura Hills area, usually in Agoura an unincorporated rural community south of the US 101 freeway, and they also hold a tribal heritage center-the Chumash Indian Museum in nearby Thousand Oaks of Ventura County. 71.102.13.174 (talk) 21:37, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, Agoura Hills has one of the highest percentages of Jewish American people for an US city (a suburb of Los Angeles known for its' large Jewish community, one of the top 10 in the US) and so is nearby Oak Park across the L.A.-Ventura county line. 71.102.13.174 (talk) 21:44, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Renaissance Faire

[edit]

Interesting historical fact I came across:

In 1973, A.E. Wright Middle School started a Medieval Market history program in which students spend a week researching and dressing up as a character from the 1300s. The school got the idea from the Renaissance Faire, which used to be held in Agoura.

Smith, Sharon D. (1990-03-15). "A.E. Wright school lauded for Medieval history study". Los Angeles Daily News. p. T1.

Might be worth looking into if this was a week-long festival. Ottre 18:16, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Augora Hills is Doug Emhoff's hometown

[edit]

I'm bewildered by the idea that a teenager living with his family in a city and attending high school in that city doesn't make a place that teenager's hometown. Is there a cultural misunderstanding here? When an American lives at home in a city and attends a secondary school in that city, then that city is his hometown. What does it mean to "just attend school" somewhere that negates that place as a hometown, when we're not talking about a college or university? I'm not getting it. How is this different from other people on the list, such as Guillermo del Toro or Heather Graham, who lived in Augora Hills at some point in their childhood/adolescence? Sources: [1], [2], [3].

The very "worst case" scenario is that Agoura Hills was his residence from February 1981 until June 1982. It seems unlikely he didn't consider the city his primary residence after that time, since he was attending college in nearby Northridge, but would even that high school period of time not be enough to be a resident? The way this works in the US is that kids take some time to establish themselves and tend to live with their parents during the summers, holidays, and so on. All that aside, why are the high school years not enough?

I'm not that invested in getting his info into this article, but I'm mostly curious why there would be this level of resistance to it. Moncrief (talk) 20:26, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Moncrief: Maybe this will help. In California, schools are not run by cities, they are run by school districts, with entirely different elected officials. The school district often includes areas outside of the city. I did a casual search for articles on the Emhoff/Agoura Hills/Agoura High School connection, and each secondary source seems to go to great pains to say he went to Agoura High School, but not say that he lived in Agoura Hills. A brief followup. Agoura Hills did not exist as a city when Emhoff graduated from Agoura High School. You can verify this on the Agoura Hills, California page. "In 1982, the residents of the proposed city voted in favor of cityhood by a 68% majority." Rklahn (talk) 07:22, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
