There is an apparent set of discrepancies in the Masoretic Text concerning whether Adriel married Merab or Michal, whether Michal was married to David or to Adriel, and whether or not Michal had any children. Scholars have come to two basic conclusions about what is going on here. That issue (rightfully) took up most of the article before I came to it, and still does.
As this article stood before, it seemed first to assume one conclusion as correct, then another, and it jumped back and forth and retraced the same ground a couple times. This was probably the result of layers of editors, each adding helpful and useful information, finally creating an article that had all the necessary information in it but in an order hard to follow. I've done an extensive rewrite, trying to preserve all the original information but laying it out in a way that's easi(er) to read. It's still somewhat complicated, though, because it's simply an issue with a lot of moving parts. I'd appreciate any feedback from past editors or people coming to this article with fresh eyes as to how the article works now, and any further improvements that could be made.Alephb (talk) 22:58, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ehm... Actually, Merab in the greek translation of the Bible is addressed with two names. Merab and Michol. So the little sister is Michal or Melchol and the oldest sister is Merab or Michol for us.⟵ElGreco♔Go Ahead♔10:04, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I find it ironic that scholars will do this with names in the Bible calling it possible copying errors instead of using common sense. The name was probably popular at the time and multiple people had those names. It isn't all that far fetched since multiple names in the Bible and Masoretic writtings are repeated. The name Mary is repeated by two women in the new. Judas used twice in the new. Saul used twice in the old and new. Etc.
It often feels like scholars are so caught up in finding errors or something else to showcase how intelligent they are that they miss common sense. I don't think anyone would argue Mary the mother of Jesus is the same Mary sister of Lazarus. Nor would anyone argue Saul in the old is Saul aka Paul in the new. I wish people would stop trying to be so smart and focus on obeying the word of God.
