Move?
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the proposal was moved to Adorf. Everyone agrees that the page should be moved, but even after a relisting, there's no real agreement as to where—nor am I confident that I could move to one of the comma forms without creating an erroneous name. So for now, I'll move to Adorf and move the current page there to Adorf (surname) (though with only two entries, it could arguably be handled by a hatnote). No prejudice against a future RM. --BDD (talk) 19:23, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Adorf/Vogtl → Adorf/Vogtl. – I mistakenly assumed the previous name, "Adorf/Vogtl." was in error because it included a period in it. Was just informed that it was correct to begin with, so I'd like to have my big boo-boo undone, please. Relisted. - It may be that the town is called Adorf, and its railway station is called "Adorf/Vogtl." (with fullstop) as short for "Adorf / Vogtland" . Is this correct? If so, the article should be moved to Adorf, as most of it is about the town. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:44, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
- Move to Adorf, Vogtland - as Oelsnitz, Vogtland and Limbach, Vogtland. There are 4 villages called Adorf in de.wp, and this isn't WP:PRIMARY. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:06, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- Move as requested (revert). I looked at this in 2008. German wp uses de:Adorf/Vogtl. and this seems the safest. Adorf is in Vogtlandkreis, but I would suggest not in Vogtland! The railway station is Adorf (Vogtl) but Bahnhof Adorf i. V. before 1911. www.museum-adorf.de gives many addresses in 08626 Adorf/Vogtl. www.adorf-vogtland.de explains more, each time the official town name is Adorf/Vogtl. but the adopted .de url is different. One pays your money and takes your choice- but I prefer to use the 'real name' used by the postal name, rather than making a decision by wiki committee. If you look at the names of the villages in the kreis, there is no one way used even for posttown names. I suggest that one should look at the postal address of Oelsnitz, Vogtland which is 08606 Oelsnitz/Vogtland- and note the inconsistent de:Oelsnitz, Vogtland- while Limbach, Vogtland, 08491 could also be called 08491 Limbach bei Reichenbach, but is most often 08491 Limbach (Vogtland). -- Clem Rutter (talk) 01:19, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- Support. "Vogtl" is short for "Vogtland" and not a name by itself. The German article and even the official website use the form "Vogtl." with the period. JIP | Talk 10:43, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
- Move to Adorf/Vogtland. It seems fairly clear the "Vogtl." is an abbreviation for "Vogtland" but I think it's one that makes a lot of sense in German but not so much in English - it's quite possible a German would just see the abbreviation and automatically say "Vogtland" in their heads, just as an English speaker would automatically expand "Jefferson Co." to "Jefferson County". The slash, however, seems to be fairly universal in representing the town name so that's fine. So, having considered all that, I think the full form "Adorf/Vogtland" is a more natural representation in English. There seem to be plenty of sources which use this as well: Google Maps, and the English address detail on the official website to name a couple. — Amakuru (talk) 14:21, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
- Move to Adorf, Vogtlandkreis, per WP:PRECISION, WP:NCGN. While de:Adorf/Vogtl. is apparently valid on the German Wikipedia, the full naming convention of Vogtlandkreis is probably more appropriate disambiguation here on en-wp. Other titles can be redirected accordingly. -- Trevj (talk) 14:34, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
- In fact, there's probably a case for a move to Adorf, per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The disambiguation page would of course need moving accordingly. -- Trevj (talk) 14:37, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
- I may be wrong, but I think the double barrelled name is more than just a town/region thing. For example, de:Plauen, the capital of the Vogtlandkreis does not follow that nomenclature and it does seem like the Vogtl. is for "Vogtland" not "Vogtlandkreis". Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler is another example of a double town name. Experts in German may be able to shine more light on this... — Amakuru (talk) 18:41, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
