Rescue

[edit]

This article is a little odd in that it discusses the search and rescue of the Lady Franklin expedition, but gives no informatio on why a rescue was required. What went wrong??

Baskaxy (talk) 00:31, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The rescue did require more than one attempt. There was a lot of media attention about the effort which included obtaining the necessary equipment. Perhaps, the rescue ought to be a sub-section after expansion of the section. jmswtlk (talk) 14:02, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

failure of expedition

[edit]

So the expedition failed b/c they never got the food they needed? Why was Greely considered any kind of 'hero"? Sounds like the whole thing was an utter disaster and the Greely was not a good leader.

In one word: Politics. Greely was connected, and the Army warrant requiring MoHs for combat was deemed irrelevant by DC insiders. At risk of appearing self-promoting, here's my book on Army MoHs with a section on Greely. https://www.amazon.com/Heroes-U-S-Medal-Honor-Recipients/dp/0425210170
