Start Date

Someone has written that the Acer Aspire was launched in 1999. I distinctly remember buying one back in September 1996, so I think there may be a problem with that date. Does anyone know for sure? --24.79.78.210 (talk) 12:46, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

I'd imagine you're right mate. The link given on that comment doesn't show what it's purported to. Personally I find the thought of a $1500 Pentium I machine in 1999 more than a little doubtful; the Pentium III had already been launched at that stage. While a low end machine might include a Pentium II, in order for the manufacturer to clear their stock, it's highly doubtful that a Pentium I machine would be on sale in 1999, especially at that price. The link provided takes you to a system, called a v55la2a not a 1151, which is listed as running Windows 95. By 1999 both Windows 98 and 98 SE had succeeded Windows 95. Opening a pdf user file gives the document copyright as 1997. All in all it would seem that the assertion is incorrect. Cyclonius (talk) 22:41, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

That doesn't just seem incorrect, it IS incorrect. I have an Acer Aspire sitting in my room with the manufacturing date "960316", with a 166MHz Pentium in it. Its a hunk of junk alright, the motherboard doesn't even support overclocking. I'm going to use its DRAM and PSU to fix up a way better Sigma rig, when it done it'll be clocked at 375MHz core, 75MHz FSB. Feneeth of Borg (talk) 21:06, 5 October 2009 (EST)
