Service Dates
[edit]I changed the service dates to reflect the fact that this rifle has never entered production, or seen actual combat in a conflict zone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.157.208.90 (talk) 12:18, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Accuracy
[edit]Considering the accuracy of 1.5 MOA is below the accuracy requirements for FBI (0.5) and US ARMY (1.0), perhaps it should be mentioned that the rifle doesn't meet US military standards of accuracy? - Dimensio
- Considering the Barrett has an MOA of only 2.0 I think Accuracy International are in comparison doing very well, also you wouldn't employ the SA50 to civilian police agencies, as for military sniping against human targets you'd use the Accuracy International AWM 338 (L115A3 Long Range Rifle) or similar, regards.Twobells (talk) 19:24, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Direct impingement
[edit]I changed the action from "recoil operated, rotating bolt" to "direct impingement". It is not "rotating bolt" action, though it has a rotating bolt. The term "rotating bolt" refers to manually operated "bolt-action" rifles, not semi-autos. It is clearly Direct Impingement and not recoil-operated because of the following characteristics: 1. there is a gas tap at the middle of the barrel. A recoil-operated rifle would not have one, but a gas or DI gun would. 2. when the breech is open, one can clearly see a gas tube protuding into the breech area from the front of the gun, which is characteristic of a DI gun only. I did not make any edits. But I agree as to the action of the rifle being Direct Impingement. That is the first thing I noticed when I saw it. The gas tube running along the top of the barrel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.61.112.12 (talk) 01:15, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
I agree that the sub-stub at AS-50 should be merged into this article (to the extent that any information there is not already here). --Butseriouslyfolks 05:38, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
RE: The Merge
[edit]I also agree. They are the same article, about the same thing, with a different spelling of the name. Let's not be pedantic here, people —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bgbnbigben (talk • contribs) 05:51, 8 March 2007 (UTC).
ditto man
- Merged (most of the data was already here) & redirected here. Unfortunately there is no place in the box that I can see for the following: Barrel: 692 mm RJFJR 20:21, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Found it, the barrel length is the field |part_length=. RJFJR 20:25, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I still can't understand one thing: Which is better: Barrett M107 or AS50? I've seen them both on 'Future weapons', it looks like the AS50 has lower recoil (I may be wrong) and it hit a target 2000 yards away with one shot and that's amazing. On the same show Mack fired a Barrett at 1000 yards and it was pretty good too, but from here it looks like the AI AS50 is better. But on the Wiki article about the M107 it says that it had sub-MOA accuracy and the AS50 - 1.5 MOA. I'm very interested in guns and I think I know a lot about them (sorry if it sounds like showing off) but if someone can answer this question I'll be very thankful to him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MavericK Long Range (talk • contribs) 20:07, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- The M82 and M107 has a sub-MOA to 600 yards, that's it, beyond 600 yards it has an MOA of 2.0 while the AS50 has an MOA of 1.5 out to 2000 yards, hope this helps. Twobells (talk) 13:57, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
M107 vs AS50
[edit]I think I got it...the Barrett must be better, it uses recoil system (all the gases are pushed forward) and the AS50 uses gas-operated action (a part of the gases are used to cycle the action)...so the Barrett is obviously more powerful and accurate... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.139.254.210 (talk) 11:15, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Very scientific result there! Lets see some actual, verified statistics before making wild assumptions.

Effective Range
[edit]Is AS50's effective range 1850 meters? User talk:Madmajor-896 —Preceding undated comment added 12:43, 28 October 2009 (UTC).
- That's what I got too. It has clearly hit targets at 2000 yards, with is about 1800 meters. If the effective range was only 1500 meters, the target at 2000 yards would be about 400 yards out of range 216.59.249.52 (talk) 23:18, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
It has such a high fire rate due mostly to the floating barrel, and the lightweight titanium frame
What? Having a light frame would increase recoil and effective fire rate time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.226.175.4 (talk) 15:29, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
