Experimental rock
[edit]Since some anonymous editor keeps inserting "experimental rock" as a genre with no explanation, I have exhausted my 3RR limit. Anyone care to give an explanation for how this is defensible, or can we stop playing footsie with the genres? Chubbles (talk) 16:17, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
i have no idea why ASD can be labelled as "experimental rock" when they are one of the most generic myspace screamo bands at the moment. "experimental rock" belongs to bands such as The Mars Volta. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.182.31.82 (talk) 12:18, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
According to Michael "Jagmin" Jagmin the genres of their Band ASD are Post-Hardcore and Experimental. And also they put Experimental in their Official Facebook account. Try to notice some songs Containing Experimental Sounds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.54.29.86 (talk) 12:27, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Dance Gavin Dance?
[edit]What's the connection between A Skylit Drive and Dance Gavin Dance? Just that the drummers happened to go to the same school? tedder (talk) 18:12, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Jonny Craig has performed as the Lead vocals of both bands..... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.72.212.148 (talk) 17:54, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Breathe Carolina and ASD
[edit]Should we label the connection between Skylit and Breathe? I can't remember exactly who are the brothers but there is one in ASD and one in Breathe. Little help please? EvaTheCarrier (talk) 21:15, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Genres
[edit]Post-hardcore shouldn't be the only genre listed. Melodic metalcore is a VERY accuate genre that I've added. In fact, quotes in the wiki article itself have referred to them as metalcore.

These seem to support that the band is metalcore —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.30.76.103 (talk) 23:33, 15 February 2011 (UTC).
- These links support metalcore, not melodic metalcore. Creation7689 (talk) 02:28, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- Your exactly right. These links DO support metalcore 100%. Considering that the band has been prevalently referred to as metalcore, it needs to be mentioned in some form. I'm in favor of adding the tag "melodic," considering it suites the group more appropriately than the abrasive genre metalcore. ♫ Chris-B-Koolio ♫ ... (Talk) 00:16, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
And this review SPECIFICALLY characterizes the album Wires and the Concept of Breathing as melodic metalcore.
♫ Chris-B-Koolio ♫ ... (Talk) 00:37, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Melodic metalcore is a term that defines metalcore bands that draw heavy influence from melodic death metal, such as. While A Skylit Drive do incorporate a lot of melody into their sound, the melodic aspect of the music much more closely resembles melodic hardcore than melodic death metal — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sweetsweetcyanide (talk • contribs) 18:24, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Timeline
[edit]There are some persistent changes to the timeline, and the listing of members. Please discuss your rationale for changing them below so that a consensus can be reached. Thanks you. Karst (talk) 10:23, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Jamin joining
[edit]There appears to be some confusion about this. In a recent interview he said that he did not join until 2008. Considering we don't have reference for his involvement prior to that year, I'd say the formation section needs to be rewritten. Karst (talk) 10:55, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Preventing an edit war - regarding band line up
[edit]An IP has been removing band members, stating a lawsuit only recognizes one person. I am neither attached to the subject nor knowledgeable about them, I am opposed to removing referenced material without discussion. I leave this as a placeholder for concerned editors to discuss. Jagmin's Signals versus A Skylit Drive
[edit]The February 2022 analysis by New Fury Media is this:[1]
Michael Jagmin broke away from A Skylit Drive and formed Signals after ASD went on hiatus in 2017. Jagmin—a replacement vocalist, not a founding member, but featured on five ASD albums—took control of the band's social media and announced they had changed their name to Signals. This has been described as Jagmin starting a new band with guitarist Jon Kintz. Signals released the album Death in Divide in 2020.
In early 2022, the founding bandmembers reformed as A Skylit Drive, picking up festival slots at So What?! and Swanfest 2022. In response, Jagmin changed the band's old social media back to look like A Skylit Drive, and there is apparently a lawsuit brewing over the ownership of the band name.
I recommend that we keep the two bands separate. Jagmin's Signals is not A Skylit Drive. Binksternet (talk) 23:37, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- I would have to agree with this. Signals is not A Skylit Drive and really should be a short mention and posted into the "Associated Acts". I would also suggest that "ASD" (the original members new band) should be categorized into "Associated Acts" as well. They publicly stated they will no longer be going by the name "A Skylit Drive" as of April 23rd. 24.28.71.41 (talk) 15:29, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Where is the ASD statement from 4/23? Binksternet (talk) 18:48, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- It is on their FaceBook and Instagram which can be seen here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Ccs5H01pyf8/ and here: https://www.facebook.com/shewatchedtheskylit FaceBook will not let me link directly to the statement but it is there. You can Also see that the various flyers for their shows have been updated to "ASD" as well. 24.28.71.41 (talk) 20:21, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, cool. I'm here to make sure the the band is represented properly, which in this case is the classic lineup which is out gigging as ASD. I'm not at all interested in helping one person take control of the collective trademark, especially someone who was not a founding member. Binksternet (talk) 22:49, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- To be fair, Michael Jagmin has had the trademark since ~2018 and even won a federal court case against Nick Miller with prejudice in 2019 for the use and control of the name "A Skylit Drive". So he is not trying to take control, he has had control. The "OG" members knew they couldn't use the name prior to reforming their version but did so anyway knowing it would be against the federal court ruling. And while Michael was not a founding member, He did write five albums vs Jordan Blake who wrote seven songs (not to diminish Jordan's contribution to the band). The "OG" members have even conceded that they will not be using the name "A Skylit Drive", so to say they are the current members of "A Skylit Drive", doesn't really seem to make sense. There are quite a few bands who have one remaining member or even zero original members who still use the band name and are the only ones who can. To me, it does not seem to make this page accurate. I would suggest that Signals and ASD be categorized as associated acts as neither are "A Skylit Drive". Recover1227 (talk) 15:33, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
- Another appeal is underway.[2] Let's see what comes of that.
- Jagmin promised in June 2019 that he would leave A Skylit Drive alone: "I'm leaving the legacy of the band alone. I’m letting the band go away."[3] That turned out to be false. The editor of NewFury said[4] that the classic lineup of A Skylit Drive has "legitimacy" because they are accepted by festival organizers as representing the band. The same source says Jagmin's version of things is "on fire". Wikipedia is built on WP:SECONDARY sources, and there are very few to choose from about this band breakup dispute, making NewFury the most recent and most authoritative word. Court documents are primary sources, and cannot be used here because of WP:BLPPRIMARY, leaving NewFury's opinion standing as the defining source for what is a very confusing situation. Binksternet (talk) 18:31, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
- Understood. Glad we could have this conversation and I look forward to seeing where everything goes. 24.28.71.41 (talk) 18:48, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
- Regardless of anyone's personal leanings toward which version of the band they prefer, Jagmin has had the legal trademark for the name for several years now. His version has a full line-up, and has released new music as A Skylit Drive. He may not be an "original member", but he was a longtime member of the band, and. again, legally holds the trademark...but because someone from NewFury claimed Jagmin's version was "on fire", that makes them the final word for now? Ridiculous. The opinion of a journalist or blogger or whomever is not more authoritative than actual legal standing and reality of a situation, and as long as Wikipedia thinks it is, it cannot and should not be considered a reputable source for information. 174.31.229.62 (talk) 00:52, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
