Restructure of the article.

@Themadonnamusiccn: I see that you want to overhaul the article, though, there are a couple of things I strongly, strongly, strongly disagree with. Firstly, I disagree that "Promotion and development" should be a combined section, since they are two different things, in practicality. The former talks about how the tour was marketed, and the latter talk about how the tour was conceived and developed. I also disagree that Reception is above talk about opening acts and setlist; normally in the structure of an article, you'd talk about what a thing is, before you talk about how it was received, whether it be an article on a book, film, album, show or, in this case, tour. Most of all, I disagree with the fact that the "setlist" section is being cut down to a bare, non-collapsed setlist with occupies too much space on the page and, in itself, does not satisfy as a representation of the tour, without notes, or reference to one-off or consistent irregularities on the tour.

Understanding the setlist, its development, and including info on setlist irregularities that have otherwise not been documented in your version of the article at all, is infinitely more helpful to a reader wanting to understand the setlist, and the work behind it, than just a bare-bones list of songs played during one show, without any footnotes or anything to help better understand even basic facts such as "Midnight" was not played in whole, or that "Fix You" was played non-traditionally. I extremely disagree with the massive amounts of shredded material from this section. Important points such as the reasoning behind the inclusion of David Bowie's "Heroes" being included on the setlist. In your version, it's simply stated as a simple tribute, implying no real connection, leaving out major details such as Chris Martin and Coldplay's relationship with Bowie, and the extent to which Martin and Coldplay paid tribute to Bowie, before and during the tour. You also failed to include the basic explaination of the structure of the setlist, explanations of how songs were performed, important setlist deviations, such as "Ring of Fire", or the Happy Birthday wish, in addition to failing to mention an important part of the fan dedication staple: how it worked, and when during the show it was. All of these things were in the original article, but were failed to be mentioned in your version, because you completely cut all of the aforementioned material out.

In addition, it wouldn't be wise to list every single supporting act for each show multiple times, and wasting vertical space in the date box. Hence the reason why I went ahead and made a separate section on the article detailing supporting acts on the tour, complete with information and citations to such. It would make even less sense and reinforce my point about the messy formatting/duplication of supporting act names, if they're not only annoyingly listed multiple times in a box, but also mentioned again, after being listed earlier in the article in its own section. Every fan request song would be needed to be listed alongside the dates, since making it its own section would be yet another waste of space on the article. In addition, it'd be wise to keep dates for promotional shows and festival appearances during the tour, since they are not only an integral part of the tour, but they also are obviously convenient to readers who would otherwise not be able to find the band's miscellaneous appearances on the tour on any other article on Wikipedia. It would be listed here, since listing them on something like the Coldplay article would also not make sense.

So yeah, those are some of my disagreements. I would've been a little bit happier if you actually contributed some of your own material, but your move was almost entirely a material purge and removal project, complete with a poorly-placed image of Bowie that overlapped the "reception" section on its left side; something that I didn't mention earlier. Normally in the circumstance that an editor makes substantial and arguably controversial removals form an article, they, to compensate, add material of their own in contribution to making an article better. But the only additions made to the article, as far as I can tell, are just unnoticeable, minor rewrites of a few sentences, which is rather insulting to say at the least. At least put forward an actual alternative, rather than just the same article, but with less content; the literal de-expansion of an article.

Festival Performances and Other Miscellaneous Shows.

These shows shall not be removed, PERIOD. These shows have been removed a number of times even though I explained that they are part of the tour. Festivals (ex. Global Citizen and iHeart) and promotional shows are shown on the other Coldplay concert tours wiki pages. For an example, on the "A Rush Of Blood To The Head Tour" page, it shows promotional shows in 2002 as part of the tour. Again, do not remove these shows as they can become a hassle if they are removed if it isn't apprehended quickly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ahi (talkcontribs) 03:48, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

These shows aren't part of the tour at all: not the same setlist, not the same show, etc. It has nothing to do with their tour. I don't understand why we should let them on Coldplay's pages. --Maximunicorn (talk) 13:29, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Someone removed these shows without taking it up to the talk page him/herself. The show doesn't have to include the same setlist in order to be considered a part of the tour. Someone please add these shows back, it really is a hassle if more edits are made after and it can only be re-added manually. Thanks! --LRLArch (talk) 20:38, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

Glasto show

It's patently absurd to claim the attendance at the Pyramid Stage is 250,000 from the cited source since the total guests are close to 250,000 but they are spread over about 100 stages at the festival. Perhaps 100,000 is closer.

Fan request song

I suggest replace the "Fan Request Song" section from the shows list for "Opening Act(s)". First, they are not cited on the Billboard Boxscore; second, this part of the show was also on the Sticky & Sweet Tour, and the fan request songs are not listed on the shows lists. I know these are two different articles, but both tours have the fan request song — the issue is, why not to replace "Fan Request Song" for "Opening Act(s)" since the opening acts are cited on the Billboard Boxscore? Setlist, Missing data

The attendance and grossing for the 2nd Latin American leg are missing, and so is an example of a setlist Bugg Bulborb (talk) 00:39, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

There already is an example of a setlist for the 2nd Latin American leg (7 November 2017 at Allianz Parque in São Paulo). With regards to the attendance and grossing for 2nd Latin American leg, we are still waiting for Billboard to release the boxscore. As soon as it is released, the page will be updated.
