AVS36 or AVS-36?
[edit]In light of the recent move, I wonder what the proper name of the rifle actually is; world.guns.ru gives "АВС-36" in Russian, and also SVT-40 in line with it, and most Russian sources seem to agree with that spelling. On the other hand, most English sources give AVS36 and SVT40, respectively. RP-46, AK-47 etc are always properly spelt with hyphen though, so it seems to me that AVS-36 and SVT-40 look more appropriate. int19h 18:49, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Most Soviet/Russian literature features the hyphen. Koalorka (talk) 16:30, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Battle rifle?
[edit]Isn't this a battle rifle by Western standards? First sentence: [...] was a Soviet automatic rifle. Infobox: Semi-automatic rifle.--Mircea87 (talk) 10:02, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- By American (≠ Western) 1950s standards, yes. Automatic rifle is accurate too and avoids imposing the US-centric and somewhat pointless categorization on rifle designed when there were no real intermediate cartridges in use. Someone not using his real name (talk) 13:18, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
