Merge events of 2023 Badminton Asia Championships
[edit]Just like the previous tournament, i think no need a stand-alone article for the event in 2023 Badminton Asia Championships. We need to merge the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships – Men's singles, 2023 Badminton Asia Championships – Women's singles to the main article. cc: User:Zoglophie, User:Timothytyy. - Support if no reliable and significant coverage can be found. However if coverage about a particular event can be found, the subpages may still warrant an article. Maybe not a good suggestion for some of you but I would support splitting all the 5 event's group stages to one page named 2023 Badminton Asia Championships - Group stage as the current format makes the main draw page look so messy, and the group stage matches are not as notable as the main draw matches. Also Stvbastian we need to notify the creator of those five articles WikiEdits2003 about this. Timothytyy (talk) 08:17, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom. We create sub pages for World Championships due to a bigger draw system and lots of qualification matches. One page for this tournament will work.

- Disagree: There are total 28 countries participating and 40 singles and doubles quotas are there in each 5 event and I think it is enough for that WikiEdits2003 (talk) 12:47, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Also there are major countries like China, Indonesia, Japan, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, India are participating in this tournament so there is lot of coverage WikiEdits2003 (talk) 12:48, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Also there are as many as 40 slots in each event and may be the second largest Badminton championship in the world after World Championships WikiEdits2003 (talk) 12:51, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Why do you care? Afterall some people like you are here only to create blank redirects while others do the work of expanding them? zoglophie 14:07, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- subpages created by WikiEdits2003 have the same source as the main page. And because only a few editors who are interested in editing articles related to badminton, the page will never be improved same as the previous year. The page will only look like a Tournament software draw. Stvbastian (talk) 14:54, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- @WikiEdits2003 Stvbastian is right. There is no significant coverage about a particular event; see previous editions for reference. Also Zoglophie you are quite disrespectful, the articles were expanded by WikiEdits 2003 himself indeed, no point of criticizing him for creating blank redirects. - So what shall be the next step ? WikiEdits2003 (talk) 05:44, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- If consensus is reached, the five articles will be merged (i.e. deleted) into the main article, just like the previous editions. Timothytyy (talk) 06:15, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- More than 10 distinct editor edited those 5 pages so this shall also be considered WikiEdits2003 (talk) 12:42, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- What do you mean? Timothytyy (talk) 13:04, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Earlier Stvbastian said that "there are few editors who editors who are interested" but now it seems like that more editors are interested WikiEdits2003 (talk) 15:52, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Can you read WP:GNG first? Timothytyy (talk) 00:12, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

- Comment @WikiEdits2003 said that 28 countries participated with 40 slots in each events made this the second largest tournament after the World Championships. This is misleading because there are still 32 slots in main draw & 12 others is only in qualification draw, the same number as Super 500 tournaments. Also, the “28 countries” included many small ones like Nepal or Maldives which are given chances to have a representative while major countries like China, Japan, Indonesia have their number of players in each event limited.NguyenDuyAnh1995 (talk) 02:01, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- As there are some athletes who have withdrawn from Group stages so number reduced and Asian Championship has group stages and some athletes with lower ranks participate and advance to Main draw WikiEdits2003 (talk) 04:03, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Everyone knows how qualification works. The point is having 40 players/pairs participating in each event doesn’t make it the second largest competition in the world as you stated. There are more in Super 500 tournaments & 500 obviously can’t be as prestigious as 1000 & 750 with 32 in total.NguyenDuyAnh1995 (talk) 04:38, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Also at world tournament most athletes come from Asia WikiEdits2003 (talk) 04:05, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- At All-England in March, 16% in MS, 30% in WS, 25% in MD, 31% in WD, 28% in XD are non-Asian.NguyenDuyAnh1995 (talk) 04:35, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Why are you two talking about statistics??? Do you know the root problem is that the articles fail GNG? We need some valid comments with citations from relevant policies! Timothytyy (talk) 04:47, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Many articles about sports fail WP:GNG but are still there so I don’t care much. I only want those 5 about each event to be merged into the main article of the tournament because they are quite short & inconvenient and also it’s not a major one.NguyenDuyAnh1995 (talk) 10:47, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- These five articles must be deleted because they don't pass GNG. Don't talk about statistics. Merge them as soon as possible. Timothytyy (talk) 10:57, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- I don’t have the authority to do delete the articles or merge them into the main one. And I think the final decision will only be made in 5 days or more than a week. I can copy the brackets to the main but honestly it will make a mess. Also, I talk about statistics mainly to disagree with the guy’s opinion about why these sub-articles should exist, and my opinion is that even if he finds the sources that pass WP:GNG, they should also merged into the main instead of being stand-alone ones.NguyenDuyAnh1995 (talk) 11:17, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

- Support Splitting into 6 different articles (1 main & 5 events) makes it uncomfortable to read, as people will have to continuously change to another instead of just scrolling. I believe with more than 20 tournaments being presented in one single page, most badminton fans wouldn’t be used to that. Also, “Group Stage” should be put at end, perhaps under “Mixed Doubles”.NguyenDuyAnh1995 (talk) 14:24, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- But there are more than 10 editors are editing so it is comfortable WikiEdits2003 (talk) 03:56, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- There will always someone who add results & information to badminton articles, but that doesn’t mean it’s comfortable to read. With such short length of results in each event, it’s more convenient to just give all in one article so everyone can just scroll & see everything instead of changing pages continuosly.NguyenDuyAnh1995 (talk) 04:26, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
