Basis of Order in the list
[edit]2022_Indian_Rajya_Sabha_elections#Punjab what is the basis for ordering in this list? It is not alphabetical. Is it based on some official list? Which? I mean how is it decided that Chadha is getting the seat vacated by Bajwa? (Pinging page editors: @MPGuy2824 @Dhruv edits @Syrriana @Pharaoh of the Wizards) Venkat TL (talk) 16:21, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
- Venkat, you are right. Unless a person is being re-elected (without a term gap), one cannot state that person Y is now occupying the seat previously occupied by person X. If multiple people being elected from the same state, on the same day, there is no real order. This problem would exist in many of the Rajya Sabha election articles/sections. I'll try to see if another country has the same situation. Hopefully they have an innovative solution. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:58, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- Agree with MPGuy2824 there is no real order to say that the seat previously occupied by person X is now occupied by Y.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 11:31, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- @MPGuy2824@Pharaoh of the Wizards thanks for the reply. Understood. Now comes the practical problem what to do with the predecessor column of the infobox for their BIO, or table such as the one here.. We could leave it as empty or (2) arrange the two lists in the alphabetical order and then pair them based on that. I believe the Parliament officials also do it alphabetically, need to confirm though. Venkat TL (talk) 14:06, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Predecessor/Successor column in Bio Infobox: This should definitely be empty, except when the election was for a single seat. Examples:
- its a 1-seat state, e.g. Mizoram
- its a multi-seat state, but the election was for only one seat, e.g. Uttarakhand.
- a by-election due to death/early resignation.

- Table of all RS elections: I like your idea of alphabetizing both lists (grouped by election date, of course). In addition we could:
- Replace "Seat No." with just "#".
- Use a rowspan on the election date to make it (a bit more) obvious that the election was at the same time.
- Alternatively, for each such table which causes confusion, we could split it into 2 (Retiring members and Elected members) -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:12, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- @MPGuy2824 agree with all the points. They are sensible and should be implemented. This should be preserved by creating a MOS:INDIANPOLITICIAN Venkat TL (talk) 07:24, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- @MPGuy2824 I have added a link to this page [Ashok Kumar Mittal] instead of name of the previous MP, see Ashok Kumar Mittal for example. Hope it is acceptable. Venkat TL (talk) 09:41, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- All good. I used the same link in the infobox as well. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 01:50, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
