Recent page move from "mutiny" to "coup"
[edit]I agree that "mutiny", whilst accurate, downplayed the situation. However, such events aren't generally considered coup d'etat until a week has passed.
Can I propose we rename it again to 2020 Malian coup attempt in line with similar articles at List of coups and coup attempts. Llew Mawr (talk) 20:24, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
This article should be renamed to 2020 Malian coup d'état attempt, for the sake of consistency with most other articles about coups d'état. — Sundostund (talk) 21:33, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
It's definitely a coup attempt IMO. A "mutiny" simply implies that sections of the armed forces have rebelled against their superiors, while in this case we have what appears to be an organized attempt to overthrow the entire government of a nation. A coup détat is still technically a mutiny, but it's on a whole other level. Goodposts (talk) 22:15, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Indeed, the previous 2012 Malian coup d'etat started as a mutiny by the soldiers. There's no doubt at this point that it's a coup, not even just an "attempt" since the President and Prime Minister were (reportedly) detained. RBolton123 (talk) 00:54, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Agreed: insofar as the president has now resigned and dissolved parliament--and more to the point for our WP:NPOV/WP:COMMONNAME purposes here, that sources are now describing it as a successful coup--I think it would be WP:DUE to remove "attempt" from the article title as well. - Indeed. I added a WP:RM/TR. TompaDompa (talk) 10:02, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Good call, it's definitely a successful coup by now. Goodposts (talk) 22:21, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi! Is this ongoing?
[edit]Shouldn't the infobox be changed to "successful coup"? I don't think this is ongoing. ^_^ Greetings everyone. --CoryGlee (talk) 18:02, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
