Flags
[edit]@Microwave Anarchist: So you think adding a flag next to a foreign club's name is ok but next to a domestic club is distracting for the reader.--Sakiv (talk) 17:46, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you mean here. Can you explain? Also, I've started a discussion at WikiProject Football. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 17:49, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- The clubs usually play against various clubs from different nationalities such as France, Netherlands etc. The readers should be able to know which nationality the team plays against so it's not distracting for them especially if we add flags to both domestic and foreign teams. For example if four German clubs reached the UEFA CL semi-finals does this make us remove the German flag because it distracts the readers or instead attracts their attention?--Sakiv (talk) 17:52, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- In the context of european competition, the club is representing their nation so a flagicon is probably justified, but the same is not true with friendlies. The flagicon add undue emphasis to the nationality of the club and appears to violate MOS:FLAG. I'd like to see what other editors think though. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 17:57, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- I've discovered there was an RfC on this previously and the verdict is not to use flagicons for friendly matches. I would appreciate it if you removed them here since I dont want to break 3RR. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 18:06, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
