Inclusion criteria
[edit]What are the criteria for inclusion in this sort of list? Examples of what's in: some people went swimming, which they do every year; there was a fire in a building in Nottingham; there was a murder near Walsall; a water pipe in London burst; three people were killed by a car in London; a man was jailed for theft; one company's share price fell; another water pipe in London burst. And that's just January. It's not exactly stuff that will echo through the ages, is it? This stuff is so minor that almost no one will have heard of it at the time, even fewer will remember it by the end of the year, and in a few years someone will come along and delete it from the article, if they can be bothered. So why not remove it now? Or are there criteria to stop this level of 'events' being included? EddieHugh (talk) 11:17, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- I agree. There are articles 2018 in England, 2018 in Scotland, 2018 in Wales and 2018 in Northern Ireland so this article should really be just for matters that are of UK significance rather than something that should be included in one of the individual country articles.Birtig (talk) 16:42, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- I've had a swing at the article. At least another 50% of the items could be cut. I'm not likely to try cutting this again, but I ask anyone who's thinking of adding things first to go to 1918 in the United Kingdom and look at the type of things that are important enough for that year. In particular, read the entries for May 1918. EddieHugh (talk) 17:23, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
