Domestic vs International

[edit]

Dutch Olympic Trials

[edit]

Should Dutch Olympic Trials count as a domestic event? I believe so, since technically it is a competition used for the purpose of determining internal teams/rankings, even while including outside guests. We generally do not consider competitions like the Italian Serie A international ones, so I believe the Dutch Olympic Trials should be treated the same way. Feel free to disagree. 108.51.166.81 (talk) 02:59, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it is an international competition if it has international competitors (and not merely guests, since international competitors are awarded medals as well). I agree that the scores are a little bit iffy, but if we discuss the scores here, we should also discuss the scores at the City of Jesolo Trophy, let alone domestic US competitions, such as the Nationals. I see the Dutch Olympic Trials as an international meet since it also included gymnasts from Slovakia, Brazil and other countries -- ThiagoSimoes (talk) 03:19, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit iffy since it was a competition to determine the athletes who would fill a national team roster (Olympic Games), if that makes sense? By your definition, should Dutch Nationals also be considered international since the Belgian girls were awarded medals for their placements? I just find it to be a gray area and I don't think the competition was billed as an international one, so I just prefer not to include it as such but there's nothing definite here. 108.51.166.81 (talk) 02:38, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
