Census Questions
[edit]Is the list of census questions relevant to an encyclopedia article on the census? I would suggest removing it, because it is currently dominating the article.--EdwardZhao (talk) 20:16, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- Census methodologies and questionnaires differ, not only between countries, but within countries between censuses, and the content of questions is often remarked upon and debated as indicators or markers of shifting administrative and cultural concerns, the tracing of which and documenting of which is culturally revealing. For example, the Irish census in 2011 asked for the first time, "How is your health in general?" and this was discussed in the Irish media, as was the question concerning religion. The census also no longer inquires how far a person travels to work, however, it asks for both home and work addresses, so the distance can be computed more reliably and accurately than before between geotagged locations and, indeed, the recording of a person's work address may be noted for discussion as a further encroachment on personal privacy driven by state statistical zeal to portray Ireland with greater resolution. A record of the content of the census is, therefore, a worthwhile resource and may be especially so for non-Irish readers who have never seen an Irish census, and who can find it instructive to note the differences from their own experience. Resources exist in the citations and external links following the article which offer potential material to grow it if anyone is concerned by disproportionality, although the question of the importance of "dominance" is open to discussion, since the census questionnaire is the census in a primary and fundamental sense, without which the engines of demographic analysis would be unable to perform their work. — O'Dea (talk) 20:04, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
- I think the actualy questions in the census could be left up to an external link to a census page with the questions. IRWolfie- (talk) 21:14, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- A great deal of the encyclopaedia could be comprised of links elsewhere, but we seek to provide information here, in the encyclopaedia itself. It creates unnecessary inconvenience to oblige people to follow links elsewhere when it is so simple to provide the information in situ. The latter is simply a courtesy that costs nothing. — O'Dea (talk) 15:25, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- There is no encyclopedic value to providing the questions. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a database. IRWolfie- (talk) 17:33, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Boycott isn't justified
[edit]The boycott citations appear to be from some dubius sources. IRWolfie- (talk) 17:17, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Citations require paid subscription; unavailable
[edit]The citation links to the Irish Times require a paid subscription to view. This is an issue for anyone wanting to see the more in-depth numbers or simply verify them. Better source should be found. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.10.211.70 (talk) 01:39, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

County results table
[edit]@Jacobfrid: Would you please explain the table you added in the County details section on 8 February 2022? Firstly, what does the Rank heading refer to? What is being ranked? Secondly, why are some rows shaded in yellow? What does that tell the reader? Thank you. Note: The table doesn't contain any citations so you may want to add some to prevent it being removed. O'Dea (talk) 19:03, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
Addressed. It was added because that information once existed on Wikipedia, ie. someone googling "What was the population of each county at the 2011 census?" but was overwritten by subsequent censuses. So I've used this page to essentially archive that information so its still on the site, not just hidden in revision history. --Jacobfrid (talk) 11:13, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
