Whether the compromise to economic activity was significant now

[edit]

The article says "local economic activity ... was significantly compromised." Wondering whether it is significant anymore, in the light of the compromise to economic activity in all these local areas and more during the Covid-19 pandemic. Placed alongside compromise to economic activity in the pandemic, the compromise in the 2011 riots seems to pale into somewhat insignificance. I suspect many businesses of large chains in the local areas were able to recover quite quickly from the compromise to their activity in 2011 as opposed to many being closed for months in the pandemic. Hardly very significant compromise if they can recover that quickly - it now looks vastly overtaken by the recent events. [[talk) 13:55, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The losses were significant, especially for those businesses which were the victims of looting & arson. The losses - both of what was stolen & damaged as well as the lost earnings while buildings were being repaired & stolen/damaged goods being replaced should be stated in the article. Why is there no mention of race when these were known to the rest of the world as 'race riots'?

[edit]

I know Wikipedia is under new management and reality and them don't get along well. But as a black man from Birmingham my family were terrorized by non-indigenous rioters as much as the indigenous people were. The issue lies in the fact these were riots by non-indigenous people and were explicitly targeting indigenous peoples businesses and homes. The media were loath to call them 'race riots' at first but they couldn't ignore the fact that when every bit of video out of the place showed it was a race riot and they couldn't brush over the fact that race was a key element in these riots. But it begs the question; why is Wikipedia doing the heavy lifting for tories and journalists who lied to us all? 124.190.192.47 (talk) 03:16, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't taken a look at the article itself, but WP:TRUTH may be relevant to your question. If you can find WP:RS that support a missing viewpoint, feel free to add them to the article. Gsquaredxc (talk) 04:15, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
