Please give information when changing table

[edit]

When the table is being changed, please give information to back up your changes. Earlier today, a gold was added for India when it wasn't on the official table, nor on the page for India at the Games, nor on the table on a major TV channel. Please include informative edit summaries, and preferably a reference to a WP:RS, so that we can see which event is being added. David Biddulph (talk) 05:59, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is users are updating as soon as the event is finished and medal ceremony happen. Rather, I suggest to update the table at the end of the day when the Official Source itself is updated. Just yesterday one user updated Malaysia's gold without the rank and another user updated ranking in order of total number of medals rather than gold. So guys have patience! -- ifesvr (talk) 06:23, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yours truly was at fault. I second the end of the day updating of the table, however the updating would be done simultaneously by many at that time, won't it? Or if people are ready to update on the fly, it helps keep the tally more updated. It can be cross checked later. Sing0d (talk) 12:25, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is worrying that the official medal table seems very unreliable. It doesn't agree with data on the CWG front page, nor is the data consistent when following down to the nations from the official medal table. Perhaps this is another area where the organisers aren't properly prepared for the games? David Biddulph (talk) 20:45, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing that adds to the confusion is when the official website has multiple entries for the same medal on the country pages. I've seen this today both for India and for Australia, the latter currently showing 4 entries each for a number of their medals. David Biddulph (talk) 17:16, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs to be semi protected as people have been constantly changing Australia's medal tally to that of Pakistan's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.195.8.46 (talk) 12:26, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Medal Tally inaccurate

[edit]

Why is there a large amount of medals, i have tried to change it but it says someones updating it. (Wikimania21 (talk) 13:22, 6 October 2010 (UTC))[reply]

It was discussed that the only page that should be used to update the medal tally is the official tally found at http://results.cwgdelhi2010.org/en/Root.mvc/Medals. Any other references should be ignored. Any changes made to this page that do not match the official results are considered to be vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MageGuild2 (talkcontribs) 23:48, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely not. Where was this discussed? As mentioned both above and below, that "official" tally is very inaccurate. We should not be deliberately including misinformation we KNOW is wrong. Strange Passerby (talkcstatus) 23:59, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The medal table is not updated at the conclusion of a race/event/final/gold medal round. The table is updated once the event has been finalised by the umpire and the medals have been presented to the players. This is when the wiki table will be updated.

By using other sources (outside of the official medal tally will result in a poor quality of information as the sources are reporting on person A receiving a medal before it has been confirmed by the commonwealth games committee. This is why the official medal tally is the only reference on this page.

If your opinion is the table is inaccurate or out-of-date, then that is something that you need to take up with the commonwealth games committee, not on this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MageGuild2 (talkcontribs) 04:31, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well done on missing the point. It's not an opinion that the official tale is incorrect - as has been evidenced above by David, it is fact. Deliberately adding this information we know is false is not acceptable on Wikipedia. Per our verifiability policy, Jimmy Wales once said: "zero information is preferred to misleading or false information" (albeit in a different context, it applies just as much here). Strange Passerby (talkcstatus) 05:04, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I say we use realiable third party sources' medal tallies such as here [1] and others, not perfect but could help until the official one is fixed --sss333(talk) 07:13, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Times of India and CBC sports are using the same medals. There tables are backed up by the individual result tallies. It appears that the official website is being extremely slow in updating their results; the Times of India had a story on this yesterday or a day before. Ravendrop (talk) 10:10, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Medals counted multiple times

[edit]

As David Biddulph has mentioned above, the 2010 official site conains many multiple medals, and sometimes isn't counting them at all. For example, England have won five golds but are only listed with four, while Singapore have only won two but are listed with five (a quick check of the nation page shows the women's pairs rifle 50m three pos counting four times. Strange Passerby (talkcstatus) 23:27, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In the past few hours I checked, Singapore's gold medals (which has always been two) went from five to one and then back to five. Were the atheletes playing vollyball with their medals?--Huaiwei (talk) 04:32, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
From what I hear, the official site's published medal table is inaccurate? Is that right? Thanks, ANGCHENRUI Talk 08:36, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See above. David Biddulph (talk) 08:55, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Consider other sources such as BBC Sport

[edit]

You may wish to consider other sources which are generally reliable, such as BBC Sport (they published a medal table for CWG 2010 as well). And we can state in the article that we sourced the info from BBC Sport. So even if they are inaccuracies here and there, Wikipedia's factual accuracy is not compromised (since we're depending on a highly reliable news source). ANGCHENRUI Talk 10:53, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unlike the links above, the BBC is unfortunately using information from the official CWG site, which is wrong. Strange Passerby (talkcstatus) 12:16, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It looks as if they've done some tweaks today to the official CWG site. It no longer links to the separate nation pages. The front page is telling a slightly different story from the medals page, probably not as up-to-date, but they are both looking a bit more credible now. Basically, we need to treat all the info with caution, and check everything we can. Hopefully the info for the different sports, & for the different nations, will give us opportuntities to cross-check when in doubt. Some of the nations' CWG 2010 pages here in Wikipedia, however, are not being updated as reliably as others. David Biddulph (talk) 13:05, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that does look much better and indeed, slightly more credible. Strange Passerby (talkcstatus) 13:07, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy

[edit]

Use this source [2]. Sydney Morning Herald is 100% accurate.

Singapore is stated to have 5 gold medals in the official website, while the Sydney Morning Herald gives 2 only. It's a vast difference; I don't know which is the right value. ANGCHENRUI Talk 14:01, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To double check, visit the nations's page, for example Singapore, which right now says two gold medals. National pages are accurate. The official 2010 games web site has problems so don't use that. Print publications, like Sydney Morning Herald, have real editors, so we can use publications as sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.162.141.194 (talk) 15:15, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, the official website must be the sole source for Wikipedia. Use http://www.cwgdelhi2010.org/ which I just used to update the medal. tally. I found differences between Australian media. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Keelback (talkcontribs) 14:08, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Due to technical difficulties, the official website is not able to update the medals tally properly. So i feel this source should be used, This is the site of the Times of India & they update it regularly. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/cwgmedaltally.cms —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yohannvt (talkcontribs) 06:14, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

1 South Africa 957 672 391 40978 1 New Zealand 958 391 672 40987

Either we have crazy, vandals at work here, or there's a bug in the code. Also, don't know how they got the fourth number from the first three. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.180.7.62 (talk) 03:35, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merely vandalism. Now been reverted (as have countless other examples of vandalism during the past couple of weeks). David Biddulph (talk) 07:52, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy

[edit]

I notice {{Accuracy}} has been removed. Have all the issues regarding accuracy and sourcing been resolved? This article has had 500 edits or so in the past week; which is good, but can I as a reader trust the article? If it's so, that's great. ANGCHENRUI WP:MSE 05:19, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Medal Tally Accuracy

[edit]

The medal tally for India and England are not correct. Official Site and Medal Tally at BBC Sport clearly show that India finished at second spot with 38 gold medals ahead of England's 37. The medal tally table currently points to a source that does not work. Kindly consider rectifying this inaccuracy by changing the source for the medal tally. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.221.232.55 (talk) 00:35, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CGF code

[edit]

Hi, is there any reason why the CGF codes are not displayed in the table (see below for example)?

Rank Nation Gold Silver Bronze Total
1  Australia (AUS) 74 55 48 177

--MSalmon (talk) 18:15, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see no reason to not include them. Go ahead! — Bill william comptonTalk 18:38, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It would mean having to change all the tables for every year though --MSalmon (talk) 18:42, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
 Done --MSalmon (talk) 18:58, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! — Bill william comptonTalk 11:33, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Would you mind doing all the other previous years because I am a bit busy with other stuff today (I will try and do this years when it comes round to it)? --MSalmon (talk) 11:35, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'll see what can I do. Will try to use WP:AWB. — Bill william comptonTalk 11:47, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You know what to put {{flagCGFteam|CGF code|year}} --MSalmon (talk) 11:48, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
