Lead:
- "the second tier of English football, to the Premier League" - according to our article for the season in question, it was known as the "FA Premier League" at that time... (although in day-to-day usage, it was confusingly called the "FA Barclays Premiership"). Some fool tried to get that situation changed about six years ago, but apparently the FA part was officially dropped at the beginning of the 07-08 season.
- Might be worth mentioning the losing semi-finalists in the lead. I've seen other articles do this.
- "which assured Watford promotion to the Premier League" - does this mean that the third goal was deemed to be the "decisive" one, after which there was no possibility of a Leeds fight-back? Although perhaps obvious, for an 84th-minute third goal, it does seem a slightly subjective opinion and should maybe be cited and attributed.
- "both teams were relegated from their respective leagues" - given that the subsequent three sentences go on to say "they were relegated to the third tier of English football" and "they were relegated back to the Championship", this opening sentence sounds slightly repetitive to me. Might be worth either dropping that part, or using different phrasing.
- "and was replaced He was Dennis Wise" - not sure what's going on here!
- "and were deducted ten points; they finished the season bottom of the league" - did the dropping of the points cause the relegation, or would they have gone down anyway? Last we heard, they were second from bottom.
More to come! — Amakuru (talk) 17:56, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- Addressed the above bar the final point, which doesn't need to be covered in such detail in the lead. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 19:14, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- One more point about the lead (and also the first part of the body) - is the assertion "The top two teams of the 2005–06 Football League Championship season gained automatic promotion to the Premier League, while the clubs placed from third to sixth place in the table took part in play-off semi-finals" actually sourced anywhere? Refs [1] and [2] seem to just give the league table without direct indication of who the playoff and promoted teams were. I guess we can sort of infer the situation from the teams who played in the semis, but might be better to cite it directly somewhere. — Amakuru (talk) 20:45, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- The Soccerway link does it. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 20:57, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Route to the final section:
- Nothing really to object to in this section. The detail on the Watford games could be expanded a little when coming for an FAC, as it seems to be less than you've put for Leeds. That's fine for now.
- Expanded the 3-0 match a bit. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:41, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Not mad keen on the across-the-page blue results box, but I suppose that sort of thing is found in quite a few places, so not a major objection for now.
Match:
- "2–1 in a replay in the 1987 final" - repetition of "in".
- "and Hulse were Leeds' top marksmen" - MOS:POSS seems to suggest Leeds's rather than Leeds', or possibly rewording the sentence if it would be difficult to pronounce if 's were added to the end.
- "Boothroyd was the former first-team coach at Leeds United, when he left in March 2005 to take the Watford manager's role" - the "when" doesn't seem quite right, since no period of time has been mentioned yet.
- Reworded, not sure I really got the original objection mind you. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- "His playing career had been ended when he suffered a broken leg in a tackle by Shaun Derry who was in the starting line-up for Leeds" - maybe say which teams the two of them played for in the game where he broke his leg?
- "who himself had experienced failure in the play-off final three years earlier when he was assistant to Neil Warnock whose Sheffield United team lost 3–0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers" - not a biggy, but this seems a little off-topic!
- Not sure why, demonstrates that Blackwell had play-off final experience. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Ah, I was being a bit thick here and misunderstood what it was saying. I assumed Blackwell was the Leeds manager at the time that Boothroyd was appointed there, but didn't realise you were also saying he was the Leeds manager during the 2006 final. Feel free to either ignore this point or tweak to make that clearer, as you see fit. — Amakuru (talk) 09:40, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Not sure why, demonstrates that Blackwell had play-off final experience. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- "Dean representing" - insert a comma between.
- "Kiyan Prince who" - maybe a comma here too
- Funny, I always get accused of using too many commas... The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- "scored 5-yard (4.6 m) header" - should be "a 5-yard header" or "from a 5-yard header" or something
- "Two minutes in, Henderson's header from a corner was weak, and was deflected off Butler" - I'm struggling to imagine what this move looked like. Did the header deflect off a defender because it was weak? That sounds more like a question of the direction.
- Seems okay to me, weak can, like a vector, have strength and direction. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Might also be worth saying which teams were inovlved in the move, because much as we've heard the names Henderson and Butler in the earlier part of the article, I didn't specifically remember which of the two sides they played for, or indeed if they were on the same or opposite teams.
- Sure, noted Henderson, but don't want to go back in circles on the Leeds' vs Leeds's etc thing. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- "had a penalty claim rejected [...] but it was rejected" - repetition.
- "Chambers received a long throw-in who turned and shot" - doesn't quite scan: did the throw-in turn and shoot?
- "Healy's strike was kept out Foster" - should be "by Foster", presumably
- "Lewis' shot" - that 's thing again
- "run the line" - sounds a bit informal
- I didn't think so but gone for the dry and banal "replace him". The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- "fouled by Derry: the resulting penalty" - semicolon not a colon
- Is the "Statistics" section cited?
- It is now, I did some digging back in history to find the WFC page which went dead and was arbitrarily removed, now added back with an archive. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Amakuru all done. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
Post-match:
- The section uses the term "Premiership" four times, but should probably stick with "Premier League" per the usage in the rest of the article. I've just noticed there's one example of this in the lead as well.
- Two of those are in quotes so I can't change them, the others I have done. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 10:51, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
Can't really see anything else here. I'll have a quick look over the refs, and then should be good to go after that. — Amakuru (talk) 09:48, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
Refs:
- No real issues here. The indirect link to the book page seems a bit redundant, given that only one page from the book is used in the article, but that's just a free choice by the article author so no complaints. Refs look impeccable in layout otherwise, and seem to be accurately used in the article from a couple of examples I've looked at. — Amakuru (talk) 10:01, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Amakuru cheers, anything else? The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 10:51, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Nope, all looks good now. Passing. — Amakuru (talk) 12:03, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
