Talk:1979 United States elections

Unverifiable citations
[edit]@Rehan76: You didn't happen to write this article using ChatGPT or something, did you? I can't find either of your citations.
On a stylistic note, the sentence structures are pretty similar and similarly vague. I get that it's an off-year election, but this doesn't pass the smell test. Snowman304|talk 06:04, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Snowman304 you got it .. but can you tell me what to do to improve it Rehan (talk) 09:23, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Rehan76: Use your own words and back them up with real sources (newspaper articles, journal articles, books, etc.). Even if it's not "perfect," it's still better than relying on a large language model that likes to make things up. Going more point by point:
- What were the special Congressional elections? Who was running? What sort of insight did the outcomes provide?
- Were Winter and Brown the only two governors elected? What sort of influences did their wins have?
- Which state legislatures had elections? How did that affect the balance of power in those states?
- Which local elections were held? Was the New York mayoral race the only important one?
- What happened in the San Francisco referendum? Were people for or against developing the waterfront? What did proponents want to happen?
The 1979 elections were seen
(by whom?)as a bellwether for the upcoming 1980 presidential election.
(Before the 1980 election or in hindsight?)The results indicated a shift
(which way did things shift?)in public opinion that would become more pronounced in the subsequent year.
- And above all else, did these things actually happen? Snowman304|talk 16:46, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- On further inspection – half of the sources seem to be a nonexistent book by one "John Smith" – :/ Stars-on-grey (talk) 13:08, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- And the other source is fake too – leaving us with a grand total of *drumroll* zero actual sources for this article Stars-on-grey (talk) 13:10, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
