The 1973, 1974 Akron women’s tennis tournaments were part of another group, who played as part of the overall Virginia Slims total tournament schedule but were named and publicized as THE AKRON OPEN. it was not until 1975 that the tournament moved to the much larger Coliseum that it officially became The Virginia Slims of Akron.
