This page 1) implies that the name was changed from the Reds to the Redlegs for the 1953 season only, and 2) that the name was changed because of rampant anti-communist sentiment. In response to 1): The announcers of the 1956 game to which I just listened referred to the team as the Redlegs. In response to 2): A reference for the reason behind the name change is not provided. I hope that someone can add reliable sourced material to this article...... Oh, wait, I see what's going on with #1: each season has its own Wiki page. That seems kinda wacky to me.
