New References
[edit]Hi all, it would be great if the two new references, specified only as "Louis" and "h.", could be made a bit more specific. --Pgallert (talk) 21:42, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Pgallert - I had forgotten! It took a lot of digging to find them fyi. It wasn't that I didn't try finding any for the GAN. ;) ceranthor 22:09, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- I have fiddled a bit with the Louis reference, see article: This way you can produce a link from the notes to the bibliography. --Pgallert (talk) 08:42, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Intro
[edit]The opening line reads: largest earthquake in the Western Hemisphere in over a decade
A quick USGS catalog search [1] finds 30 earthquakes that were larger than 6.8 in South America alone during the period 1939-1949 so this sentence needs some tweaking. RapidR (talk) 17:08, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Damage and Casualties: photo of Pelileo
[edit]The caption under the photo seems to show an incorrect spelling of the hamlet name. I cannot see how to correct this.
The village name is Pelileo, but the label under the photo actually shows Pelìeo

Questions for Editors
[edit]- It seems unclear to use the wording: largest earthquake in the Western Hemisphere in over a decade. What is meant by largest? Does it mean the most powerful?
- Doesn't the statement: The hypocenter of the earthquake occurred 40 km (25 mi) beneath the surface, under a mountain 72 km (45 mi) from Ambato require some citation?
