re need help

[edit]

Here's the thing, usually I'm working on Chinese wikipedia, so I'm not quite familiar about the procedure here. I want to nominate an article (Paul Kane) for FAR, at first someone told me that I can't do it right now, like it need to be informed first at the talk page, and he did it for me, but now there's two weeks passed, still no improvement in the article, what should I do next? My English is not very good, hope I express nothing inappropriate. Thanks.--Jarodalien (talk) 09:40, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nikkimaria and Lupo participated in that talk page discussion at Talk:Paul Kane, I'd suggest replying to them and having a bit of a discussion first, over there. Good luck, — Cirt (talk) 10:04, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

re Thanks for the help last time

[edit]

Thanks for the help last time, the main editor has reply today. And base on his (her?) reply, what's should I do next?

BTW, 1984年罗杰尼希教生物恐怖攻击 translating form your amazing Featured article 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack, now is also a Featured article at Chinese Wikipedia, thanks for your encourage and patient.--Jarodalien (talk) 07:22, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see you got a reply at Talk:Paul_Kane#FAR.3F. I think the next step is either try to improve the article yourself, then post neutrally worded notices to several related WikiProject talk pages to let people know about this, and then go to WP:FAR. Thanks so very much for your continued wonderful translation efforts!!! — Cirt (talk) 09:26, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Big dams in China

[edit]

Hello, so I found this source for dams in China just the other day. It seems that a lot of new large dams may be under construction. It takes a lot of research to look up the name and find out the details. Usually, English sources do not have up-to-date info on current dams under construction in China, especially specifics. I was curious if you had a source that better listed the current status of dams in China? Thanks--NortyNort (Holla) 19:49, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jarodalien, I am having trouble confirming the status of the "Daxikou", "Da Xi Kou" dam on the Wu River in Chongqing. It is supposedly a 1,200 MW dam and I cannot find a good source on it. I read it was under construction but Chinese sources seem to indicate it was cancelled due to the rising water from Three Gorges Dam. Can you look into this for me? Thanks--NortyNort (Holla) 20:37, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure of the Chinese for the name. The English source I have for it is here on page 14 as "115 | Wu River 10 | Daxikou | Under construction". As far as Chinese sources, I looked at this page, and for 1,200 MW power stations it has "异地技改塘寨项目1200MW" and "大方(1200 MW)". The .zh Wikipedia article, zh:乌江 on the Wujiang has "大溪口水电站(已因三峡水库蓄水取消规划)" at the bottom of the last section which is similar to what you had. That article lists the dams in order, from upstream to downstream. Being that dam was listed last and is cancelled, I thought it was the Daxikou. So I am not sure overall. I am not good with Chinese and can't figure this one out.--NortyNort (Holla) 20:00, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks for doing the research. I can check on it down the road. I listed it as cancelled in the Wu River article. I looked on Google Earth at the area it was supposed to be built in and it looks like the Three Gorges reservoir has risen into it, so it makes sense.--NortyNort (Holla) 20:47, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, those links are dead by now. They used to show the tropical weather outlooks, but that site went down, and there isn't a replacement one (that I know of). Sorry! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:37, 12 August 2014 (UTC) All of those NCDC links can be found here http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/IPS/sd/sd.html. Just scroll down to 2001-06. FARs

[edit]

We usually only allow one nomination per user at a time at featured article review, and your last nomination (Enzyme) is still open. The one nomination at a time rule is relaxed for articles listed as unreviewed at Wikipedia:Unreviewed featured articles, but neither Enzyme nor Aldol reaction is listed there. On this occasion, as the Enzyme review is coming to an end and looks to be in keep territory, I will close that one and let your recent nomination of Aldol reaction continue. Thanks for helping to improve the articles! DrKiernan (talk) 15:16, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bots

[edit]

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script.
