As noted in the article Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, for the first couple decades, the Award was actually Best Special Effects. The name encompassed more than just visual effects. During those early years the award was given to teams that included at least one "photographic" person and one "sound" person. So labeling the award as Best Visual Effects is both an anachronistic misnomer, but misses that the award was aimed at choosing the best film in terms of combined visual AND sound effects. Therefore, I'm going to the change the name of the award in those years (such as the 12th Academy Awards) where the award named was actually Best Special Effects. I will keep the same wikilink though. There is no separate article for the Best Special Effects Award. Rather, those awards are including in the Best Visual Effects article. --JamesAM (talk) 23:42, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I made this edit because it seemed weird for the intro to talk about an award for visual effects having been given for the first time, and then the article mentioning the award as being for special effects. Mathew5000 (talk) 20:56, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
