Obsolete?

[edit]

The information on (referenced) page https://get.mp/ (date 2011-02-26) indicates most of information on the .mp page is obsolete.

To meet this demand, .mp, the ccTLD for the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) has been repurposed for personal identity and social networking. Second-level .mp domains have been integrated into the chi.mp offering and are being given away to personal owners free of charge. All barriers to entry have been removed for users seeking their own second-level domain and fully functional Web site. Industry observers forecast that chi.mp will drive registration growth within the .mp TLD to 7-10 million by mid-2010. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.227.137.18 (talk) 17:09, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chi.mp

[edit]

You won't find the article on Chi.mp anymore because someone called User:Longhair slashed it rather than work it over. Which is honestly par for the course. Checking his activity record one sees he's a bit obsessed not with contributing (people want to know more about Chi.mp) but in destruction. And that's not good for Wikipedia or anyone.

What does it stand for?

[edit]

Does anyone know what the P in .mp stands for? My guess would be Pacific Ocean but I need a source. Dinsdagskind (talk) 13:47, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It probably comes from Northern Marina Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Maybe? Linux731 (talk) 20:52, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Dinsdagskind, I just figured it out. MP comes from the United States Postal Service code. Say, I want to send something to Texas. It would be TX. I want to send something to Northern Mariana Islands, MP. Linux731 (talk) 20:54, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's free or not?

[edit]

Ok, go to chi.mp. It lets you register a .mp domain for free. The wiki needs to be updated. Linux731 (talk) 20:48, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
