- 1999 - The 1999 Odisha cyclone (pictured) reached its peak intensity with a central pressure of 912 hPa (mbar), making it the most intense tropical cyclone on record in the North Indian Ocean. The storm made landfall in the Indian state of Odisha the next day killing about 10,000 people.
