- 1988 - Typhoon Ruby made landfall in the Philippines causing over $200 million in damage, and sinking a passenger ferry in the Visayan Sea which killed 387 of the people on board.
- 2006 - Cyclone Xavier became the strongest recorded South Pacific tropical cyclone in the month of October, attaining 10 minute winds of 175 km/h (110 mph).
- 2018 - Typhoon Yutu (pictured) becomes the strongest typhoon to impact the Mariana Islands with 1-minute sustained winds of 280 km/h (175 mph). Yutu later impacted the Philippines, and combined damages were toppled to US$854 million.
