Bøylefoss Bridge on the Arendal Line, which was originally opened in 1908 connecting Arendal and Froland in Norway, crosses Nidelva. The small station at the end of the bridge, Bøylefossbru, opened in 1911 and is seen in this view from 1913.

A double-stack container train of the Panama Canal Railway arrives at Colón, Panama, in 2007. The Panama Canal Railway is a subsidiary of the Kansas City Southern Railway, and the locomotives' livery is reminiscent of that railroad's Southern Belle passenger train of the 1950s and 1960s.

Two steam locomotive-hauled trains traverse the Aliwal North–Barkly East line in South Africa in 1983. The train in the foreground is in the 8th reverse station while the train in the background is in the 7th. This line was one of many South African lines that were abandoned in 2001.

London and North Eastern Railway D16 "Super Claud" class 4-4-0 locomotive number 62530 pulls a local stopping train out of March railway station in England in 1958. March was an immensely busy junction of important main lines, especially for freight to/from Whitemoor. None of the famous "Claud Hamilton" locomotives were preserved.

Amtrak's Downeaster passes through the Scarborough Marsh in Scarborough, Maine, on tracks owned by Pan Am Railways in April 2011. The leading vehicle on this train is not a locomotive but rather a "cabbage car", a former F40PH that has had its prime mover and other equipment removed while the control cab remains for push mode operations; the empty space in the cabbage car is used for checked baggage.
