[edit]- 1877 – Baltimore and Ohio Railroad workers riot in Baltimore, Maryland. Nine railroad employees are killed as the Maryland militia attempts to quell the riot.
- 1880 – Construction on the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad reaches Leadville, Colorado.
- 1885 – The Hull and Barnsley Railway, a constituent of the London and North Eastern Railway, opens.
- 1887 – The Youngstown, Lawrence and Pittsburg Railroad and the Ashtabula, Niles and Youngstown Railroad, both in Ohio, are merged to form the Pittsburg, Youngstown and Ashtabula Railroad (a Pennsylvania Railroad subsidiary).
- 1895 – Gov. Stanford, Central Pacific Railroad's first locomotive, is retired from regular service.[1]

[edit]- 1922 – Alan Stephenson Boyd, the first United States Secretary of Transportation 1966–1969, president of Illinois Central Railroad 1969–1972, president of Amtrak 1978–1992.
Deaths
[edit]- 1910 – Ira G. Rawn, vice president of Illinois Central Railroad until 1909, president of Monon Railroad 1909–1910, dies from an allegedly self-inflicted gunshot wound.[2][3][4]
