- 1952 – Korean War: 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment joined the 28th Brigade of the 1st Commonwealth Division in Korea.
- 1966 – Vietnam War: 1st Australian Task Force established for operations in Phouc Tui Province, South Vietnam.
- 1918 – World War I: 2 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps destroyed 15 German aircraft.
- 1967 – Vietnam War: 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment arrived in South Vietnam.
- 1900 – Second Boer War: Lieutenant T W.R. Watson of the New South Wales Mounted Rifles rode into Pretoria to demand the immediate surrender of the Boer forces there.
- 1944 – World War II: The Royal Australian Air Force took part in its last major air battle of the war when 15 P-40Ns from No. 78 Squadron attacked 15 Japanese aircraft shooting down 10 aircraft for the loss of a single P-40.
- 1900 – Second Boer War: Victorians and Western Australians engaged in a conflict at Six Mile Spruit, South Africa.
- 1940 – World War II: The Government ordered the formation of the 9th Division.
- 1916 – World War I: the 7th Brigade conducts the first Australian raid in France around Armentieres.
- 1919 – Russian Civil War: 250 Australians land at Archangel, Russia, as part of the Australian contribution to the Allied Intervention in Russia 1918–1919 serving with the British North Russia Relief Force
- 1916 – World War I: The Returned Soldiers and Sailors Imperial League of Australia was formed.
- 1944 – World War II: Australian personnel and units take part in the Normandy landings
- 1969 – Vietnam War: Battle of Binh Ba began in South Vietnam.
- 1917 – World War I: The 3rd Division engages the enemy for the first time in the Battle of Messines.
- 1917 – World War I: Robert Cuthbert Grieve is awarded a VC for actions near Messines.
- 1917 – World War I: John Carroll is awarded a VC for actions in the Battle of Messines
- 1941 – World War II: Troops from the 21st and 25th Brigades of the 7th Division crossed into Lebanon during the Syria–Lebanon campaign.
- 1942 – World War II: Two Japanese submarines – I-24 and I-21 – surface and bombard Sydney and Newcastle respectively.
- 1985 – 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (Group) Memorial was unveiled at the entrance to Holsworthy Barracks.
- 1918 – World War I: the Third Battle of Morlancourt is fought on the Western Front
- 1940 – World War II: A convoy carrying 8,000 Australian troops arrived at Gourock, Scotland. The troops were incorporated into the island's defences.
- 1957 – 1 Special Air Service Company raised at Swanbourne, Western Australia.
- 1901 – Second Boer War: The New South Wales Citizen Bushmen contingent returned from South Africa.
- 1940 – World War II: Australia declared war on Fascist Italy.
- 1900 – Second Boer War: New South Wales mounted rifles and Western Australian mounted infantry involved in the capture of Diamond Hill, Pretoria, South Africa.
- 1996 – Two Blackhawk helicopters the 5th Aviation Regiment collided at High Range Training Area, killing 18 passengers and crew from SASR and 5th Aviation Regiment.
- 1945 – World War II: On Bougainville, after crossing the Hongorai River, the 24th, 57th/60th, 58th/59th Infantry Battalions from the 15th Brigade advance through the bush surrounding the Buin Road to clear the Japanese defenders.
- 1968 – Vietnam War: 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment returned to Brisbane on the troopship HMAS Sydney.
- 1901 – Second Boer War: The 2nd Tasmanian Bushmen contingent returned to Australia from South Africa.
- 1966 – Vietnam War: The concentration of the 1st Australian Task Force in South Vietnam is completed with the arrival of the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.
- 1901 – Second Boer War: James Rogers is awarded a VC for actions near Thaba’Nchu, Orange Free State.
- 1945 – Second World War: Labuan and Muara Islands cleared of Japanese troops by the 24th and 20th Brigades respectively.
- 1942 – World War II: HMAS Nestor was bombed and sunk in the Mediterranean Sea, of Tobruk.
- 1953 – Korean War: 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment relieves 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment in Korea.
- 1945 – World War II: the 2/32nd Battalion landed at Weston, North Borneo.
- 1966 – Vietnam War: MV Jeparit began its first resupply voyage to South Vietnam.
- 1943 – World War II: Government announced that Australia was considered no longer to be under direct threat from Japan.
- 1953 – Korean War: Australian prisoners of war of the Korean War released at Panmunjon.
- 1941 – World War II: Arthur Roden Cutler is awarded a VC for a series of actions at Merdjayoun, Lebanon, during the Syria-Lebanon campaign.
- 1952 – Korean War: The 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, relieved the 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment on the Jamestown line, Korea.
- 1864 – Australians in action against Maori forces at Te Ranga, New Zealand.
- 1943 – World War II: D Company, 2/6th Infantry Battalion defend and hold Lababia against a Japanese attacking force numbering more than 1,500 troops.
- 1911 – The first 42 cadets are inducted into the Royal Military College Duntroon, consisting of 32 Australians and 10 New Zealanders. The college was officially opened six days later.
- 1951 – Korean War: 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment is awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, for "extraordinary heroism and outstanding performance" during the Battle of Kapyong.
- 1941 – World War II: Troops of the 19th Brigade fought a defensive action against overwhelming odds at Brallos Pass.
- 1945 – World War II: Japanese resistance on Tarakan ends.
- 1885 – The New South Wales Contingent to the Sudan disembarks in Sydney.
- 1943 – World War II: The Australian Army Dental Corps was formed.
- 1940 – World War II: The British Government requests the Australian Government for military assets to assist in the garrisoning of Malaya, resulting in the despatch of the 22nd Brigade in early 1941
- 1942 – World War II: Maroubra Force is formed.
- 1916 – World War I: William Jackson is awarded the Victoria Cross for actions near Armientieres, France.
- 1942 – World War II: The 9th Division was ordered to Egypt in response to Rommel's advance across Africa.
- 1911 – Royal Military College, Duntroon officially opened in Canberra.
- 1950 – Australia in the Korean War: Australian Government announced that ground troops would be sent to Korea.
- 1950 – Malayan Emergency: No. 1 Squadron and No. 38 Squadron join the Far East Air Force in Malaya.
- 1950 – Korean War: United Nations Security Council recommends United Nations assistance to South Korea.
- 1918 – World War I: Phillip Davey is awarded the Victoria Cross for actions near Merris, France.
- 1945 – World War II: Leslie Thomas Starcevich is awarded the Victoria Cross for actions near Beaufort, North Borneo.
- 1942 – World War II: General Thomas Blamey reorganises the Australian Army for the defence of Australia.
- 1918 – World War I: The 1st Division captured Merris, France.
- 1942 – World War II: The New Guinea Volunteer Rifles and the 2/5th Independent Company raid Salamaua.
- 1943 – World War II: Allied force land at Nassau Bay in New Guinea
