- 1941 – World War II: 6th Division in action at Bardia, Libya beginning Australia's first major ground campaign of the war.
- 1942 – World War II: Japanese air attacks begin against Rabaul, New Britain.
- 1941 – World War II: The 6th Division captures the city of Bardia and 40,000 Italian prisoners, including four generals, at a cost of 130 killed and 326 wounded.
- 1945 – World War II: HMAS Australia was damaged by Kamikaze aircraft in Lingayen Gulf, Philippines killing 25.
- 1906 – First meeting of the commanders of the Australian Military Forces.
- 1952 – Korean War: HMAS Tobruk bombards Chomi Do, Korea.
- 1952 – Korean War: RAAF launch first Gloster Meteor rocket attack against ground forces.
- 1958 – Korean War: Last Australian servicemen returns from Korea.
- 1917 – World War I: The 1st and 3rd Light Horse Brigades take part in the Battle of Rafa, capturing the town.
- 1940 – World War II: Australian Comforts Fund re-established.
- 1966 – Vietnam War: 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment begins operations during Operation Crimp.
- 1940 – World War II: Second Australian Imperial Force sails for the Middle East.
- 1942 – World War II: Japanese forces captured Tarakan Island, Borneo.
- 1973 – Vietnam War: Official cessation of hostilities in Vietnam by Australian forces.
- 1943 – World War II: Australian and American forces begin attack on Sanananda during the Battle of Buna–Gona.
- 1988 – Captain PJ McCarthy was killed whilst on duty the UNTSO Observer Group in Lebanon becoming the first Australian Serviceman to die whilst serving with the United Nations.
- 1900 – Second Boer War: Troops from New South Wales are attacked at Prieska by Boers.
- 1944 – World War II: The 20th Brigade occupied a major Japanese barge and supply point at Nambariwa in the Australian advance to Sio in New Guinea.
- 1942 – World War II: 8th Division causes heavy casualties on Japanese in an ambush at Gemas in the first Australian contact with Japanese troops of the war.
- 1947 – The School of Infantry is reformed following World War II.
- 1944 – World War II: Australian 9th Division capture the town of Sio destroying the Japanese 20th Division in the protracted Huon Peninsula Campaign.
- 1993 – Main contingent of 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment began to arrive in Somalia by aircraft as part of Operation Solace.
- 1952 – Korean War: HMAS Sydney begins its seventh patrol and final tour in Korean waters.
- 1962 – Frank Hurley the first official AIF photographer dies.
- 1917 – World War I: No. 4 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps sail for France.
- 1993 – 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment assumed responsibility for security of the town of Baidoa, Somalia.
- 1901 – Second Boer War: New South Wales and New Zealand troops defeat approximately 800 Boers at Ventersdorp.
- 1942 – World War II: North Borneo surrendered to Japanese forces.
- 1951 – Korean War: Mustangs of No. 77 Squadron RAAF attacked a suspected Chinese headquarters in Pyongyang.
- 1942 – World War II: Charles Groves Wright Anderson wins a VC at Muar River, Malaya.
- 1942 – World War II: Wirraways of No. 24 Squadron RAAF engage Japanese fighters and bombers over Rabaul, 8 were shot down.
- 1941 – World War II: Australian 6th Division begins its attack on Tobruk, Libya.
- 1941 – World War II: Tobruk surrenders to Australian 6th Division.
- 1943 – World War II: HMAS Patrica Cam was sunk by Japanese aircraft near the Wessel Islands.
- 1942 – World War II: Japanese forces capture Rabaul, New Guinea.
- 1944 – World War II: Australian 7th Division defeat Japanese forces at Shaggy Ridge, New Guinea.
- 1967 – Vietnam War: Members of 1st Australian Task Force make contact with the enemy for the first time in the area of the Bien Hoa.
- 1942 – World War II: Japanese forces land at Lae.
- 1942 – World War II: Full mobilisation ordered in Australia in response to the threat of Japanese invasion.
- 1952 – Korean War: Last day of service for HMAS Sydney in the Korean War.
- 1945 – World War II: Beginning of Sandakan Death Marches in Borneo only 6 of the 6,000 marchers survived.
- 1941 – World War II: Australian 6th Division engages the enemy at Derna, Libya.
- 1991 – First Gulf War: RAN Clearance Diving Team departs Perth for Kuwait during the First Gulf War.
- 1941 – World War II: Italians evacuate Derna, Libya after being defeated by units of the 6th Division.
- 1941 – World War II: 6th Division occupies Derna.
- 1942 – World War II: Japanese attack Ambon, New Guinea.
- 1968 – Vietnam War: First Battle of Saigon begins Operation Coburg for 2 and 7 RAR.
- 1942 – World War II: Allied forces withdraw to Singapore after being driven from the Malay Peninsula.
