- The biographical film Cantinflas, about the Mexican actor Cantinflas (pictured), is released nationally
- Hurricane Odile makes landfall on the Baja California peninsula

- Allegations are made that employees of Grupo Financiero Banamex, a division of Citigroup, had taken millions of dollars in kickbacks from vendors.
- Isaiah "Ikey" Owens, keyboard player for Jack White, is found dead in his hotel room in Puebla, Mexico
- November
- Comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, known as "Chespirito", dies at age 85
- October
- Vicente Carrillo Fuentes, a suspected drug lord and former leader of the Juárez Cartel, is arrested in Torreón, Coahuila
- A mass grave is found outside Iguala in Guerrero, southern Mexico
- Students and teachers set fires inside a state capital building in Chilpancingo, in protests over the disappearance of 43 students believed abducted by local police linked to a drug cartel. The disappearance is being investigated for possible connections to the Iguala massacre
- The Federal Preventive Police take over 13 municipalities in Southern Mexico, where local police are suspected of links to organized crime [2]

- In Mexico City, thousands protest the disappearance of 43 students after the discovery of mass graves.
- Methamphetamine seizures at the California - Mexico border are up by 300% from 2009 to 2014, with 14,732 pounds seized in 2014[3]
