Successful nominations
[edit]This is another great photograph that appears in the Konark article. The image is available under GFDL, and is of sufficiently high resolution. It adds significantly to the article. To me, it looks worth featurable. — Ambuj Saxena (☎) 07:39, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- Support Of course. This is a nice image. Needs to be selected.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:31, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- Strongly oppose This is a shabby image, out of focus and leaves out the important details. Please delist. It has likely been sharpened in post-processing. If you want to see what is missing in the image, please see this image Fowler&fowler«Talk» 04:55, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
This Agni-II missile image appears on numerous articles including the Agni missile system article. Available under CC-BY-2.5. Very clear and encyclopedic image. Can be selected on the portal, IMO. — Ambuj Saxena (☎) 19:28, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
A fascinating image that makes me wonder how was this wasn't discovered any before. Can't find any fault with it. Available under GFDL and appearing in Lakshadweep article. — Ambuj Saxena (☎) 19:13, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

This image, as can be seen, is about Gateway of India. Available under a free license (GFDL), it is of very high quality and depicts the subject very well. I think we can have this as a selected picture on the portal. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:50, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I found this image to be very useful for illustrating idlis, having a very high resolution, and at the same time very pleasing to the eye. The subject, of course, is intimately linked to India. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 19:53, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

This breath-taking photograph shows the Mysore Palace during night. It is a CC-2.0 image from Flickr. Definitely looks like a selectable picture on the Portal. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 08:39, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
This is an image of a Bengal Tiger, used in many articles including the Bengal Tiger one. As work of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employee, the image is in Public Domain. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 10:28, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

The image is already featured at the commons. I don't know why it wasn't nominated as FP on enwiki. This is another speedy promotion candidate as it is very much India-related. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 09:33, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- It is already nominated as FPC. The other such map is India roadway map with population density.svg, but I prefer this one as it is cleaner. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 09:51, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Comment: Has this map been tested for accuracy? Also, I'm not sure if it is a technical problem, but most of the small place names are not legible on my screen even at full blown resolution.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 14:08, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- The map cites its source as NHAI. You can cross-check with that. The place names look small because the font size setting in your browser is small. Try increasing the font size. In firefox, it is ("Ctrl" + "+"). This should fix the problem on your PC. Anyways, SVG images don't have the rastering effect you are talking about. Try opening the image in notepad and see for yourself that everything is written in plain text. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 14:25, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Weak oppose:Support now Is it just me, the second edit looks hazy to me. I like the tilt correction, but the clarity is gone. - Ganeshk (talk) 17:10, 28 September 2006 (UTC)- Even I saw the problem, but couldn't understand why this is happening. When I view the full images on my computer, there is absolutely no noticeable difference in quality (or sharpness), but the thumbnails here have significant difference. See for yourself...download both of them, and compare against each other. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:20, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I downloaded them and found them to be the same quality. Not sure about the haziness though.
A beautiful and illustrative photograph of a Nishi tribal, wearing the traditional head-dress having a hornbill beak. In this case, the head-dress also has monkey hair at the back. Illustrates the accompanying article very well.

Oppose. It does not seem to be unique on the internet. Shyam (T/C) 13:34, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- A few points -
- Do take the trouble to cite specific instances when making such a general statement.
- Since when did being "unique on the internet" become a requirement for any FP?
- Do you mean to imply that all featured pictures need to be unique on the internet? doniv 17:08, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't mean that the picture should be unique on the internet to be FP but it seems to me just a common and less important. Shyam (T/C) 09:48, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- Since you use the word "seem", I assume that you haven't really checked if this picture is actually common or not. Do search on the internet for photographs of Nishi tribals - maybe you'll reconsider your vote then - doniv 16:23, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- Doniv, thanks for your response. I found some links, like 1 and 2. These have this type of feature but it seems not to be so common. So I support to be selected. Shyam (T/C) 18:42, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Actually the first link you quoted is this same photograph, clicked by me. It's just been inverted and cropped differently - doniv 05:03, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Shamelessly nominating my own picture. This is a photograph of the 8 mtr high gilded statue of the Buddha in Tawang Gompa. This depicts the Sakyamuni Buddha, the moment at which he attained enlightenment. The Buddha is seen in a "ground-touching" pose, where he touches his lotus with the tip of his hand and with a serene expression on his face. I've added this to the Buddha article, since it was lacking a picture from a well-known Gompa, and especially one in this state (pose). Do see the picture in it's full size - there's a lot of beautiful detail which is not apparent in the resized version.

This might be vanity, but I found this image extemely suitable as a selected picture on Portal:India. The image is of the central academic complex (known as Main Building) of IIT Kharagpur. It is high resolution, used in many articles, and illustrates the institute well. I would like to know if the community also finds it suitable for getting the "Selected Picture" status.

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (formerly Bombay Municipal Corporation) or the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (Marathi: बृहन्मुंबई महानगर पालिका) is India's richest municipal organisation. Established under the Bombay Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, it is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city of Mumbai (Bombay). Its motto, यतो धर्मस्ततो जय (Sanskrit: Yato Dharmastato Jaya or, Where there is Righteousness, there shall be Victory) is inscribed on the banner of its Coat of Arms. The BMC, as it is more popularly known, is the largest civic organisation in the country, and administers an area of 434 sq km.

- Oppose. There are a number of issues with the image. The bottom part of the building is cropped. The image is also slightly out of focus. For a Nikon camera, I suggest to shoot the image again with the scene mode selected as Landscape→Architecture for better results. - Oppose. Very ordinary image. Since hardly 10 metres of the prom is visible (due to the crowd), it doesn't even illustrate the article properly. Colours are also dull. Using better camera settings on a relatively less crowded day, it should be possible to get far better image. — Ambuj Saxena (☎) 14:28, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

A high-res picture of a temple at Khajuraho that I took in 1999 with my Nikon camera. It is one of the most famous temples from the period and I am somewhat happy with the way the photo turned out. It is linked on the Kandariya Mahadeva page and a self-nom for Did you know. I forgot to mention that I'd like the nominations to be defered to next week since I myself support the Somnath Temple picture Feature.
Nominate and support. - Antorjal 20:45, 24 September 2006 (UTC)withdrawn --Antorjal 16:52, 1 October 2006 (UTC)- Oppose. The image has blown over yellow shade. Looks like it is scanned out of an analog camera. In a lot of places, colours are missing. Also at a few places, dust particles on the photograph as much as 2mm across can be seen. Two of them are so big that they are visible in the thumbnail also. The photograph overall looks out of focus. It is usually difficult to focus with such large perspective, but on inspection, I find that everything is out of focus. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 12:26, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- The nomination is withdrawn per your comments. The photo was taken on a film camera and scanned. The "out of focus" business may be my inability to focus properly or that the scanning resolution is far greater than the picture resolution (i.e. the pic is blown up). The hue, saturation, and contrast can be corrected to a major extent but the spotting can not. Thanks for your comments. --Antorjal 16:52, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
