Peebinga railway station was the terminus of the Peebinga railway line. It served the rural town of Peebinga, South Australia.
History
[edit]Peebinga railway station opened on 14 December 1914 when the line was built from a junction with the Barmera line at Karoonda. The line extended eastward through the Murray Mallee region, ultimately terminating at Peebinga, located just two kilometres from the Victorian state border.[1] The station consisted of a shelter and a goods platform.[2]
In 1927–28, consideration was given to extending the Peebinga railway line across the state border into Victoria and then northward to Morkalla. This extension would have connected with what later became the Victorian Railways' Morkalla railway line, which at that time terminated at Meringur.[3]
The last passenger train to use the station was a RTA group special.[4] The line closed on 7 December 1990; there is no longer any trace of the station.[5][6]
